Our History
Charles Glen Morrison moved to Alpine in 1928 in search of the perfect climate. He opened Ben Franklin Variety in downtown Alpine. In the mid 1930s he began establishing dime stores in other West Texas towns called C.G. Morrison Co. The management was passed to his nephews, Thad and Bob Corkins, in 1953. They operated the company jointly until the mid 70s when Thad Corkins became the owner and operator of part of the stores.
Bob Ward went to work for C.G. Morrison Co. in April 1971. Morrison True Value was opened in 1976 at the corner of North 5th and Ave E. In 1983, the store moved to its present location.
In January 1987, Ward bought the company. Many additions have been made to the store. The store has been expanded to over 16,000 square feet. Just Ask Rental was added in Dec. 1996. A RadioShack Dealership was added in Mar. 1999. Expansion continued in June 2001 with the addition of the 7,800 square foot TRUE VALUE GARDENS across the street from the main store. Lucy's Christmas Cottage, a year round christmas store, was added in October, 2004.
Expanded merchandise assortments have been added to all departments making Morrison True Value the Shopping Headquarters for the Big Bend.
