Outdoor Solar Lights: My Easy Installation in Less Than 10 Minutes

Hi Everyone! It’s Taryn from Design, Dining and Diapers, and today I’m talking about outdoor lighting. Now, I know what you are thinking, ‘But, it’s SO expensive’ and ‘But, I would have to hire someone to do the wiring!’ Well, you couldn’t be more wrong. Installing outdoor lighting can actually be really easy and inexpensive and still make a huge impact.

Would you believe that it only took me 10 minutes and cost me $100 to install all these lights? Ready for my secret?

Two words: Solar. Lights. You can find these quality Outdoor Solar Spot Lights on TrueValue.com for just $16.99 a piece.

The lights come with everything you need. All I had to do was attach the plastic stake and turn the switch to on. You can set them for a 6 hour duration or 10. And they turn on automatically at dusk. So no need to mess with timers during daylight savings!

They also come with a battery installed and solar panel attached. Like I said before, 10 minutes max putting these together.

Next step is to push the stakes into the ground and then position the lights (for staging tips see below). Once your light is pointing the desired direction tighten that little piece as shown above.

When placing my stakes in the ground, I staggered mine so some were in the far back and others were up closer to the house and pathway.

Now let’s talk positioning. In order to maximize your lights, you’ll want to have them pointing different directions so you can really highlight both the landscape and the architecture of your home. I directed the lights closest to the house in an upward direction so they will shine directly on the house, while the lights near the edge of the grass are pointing straight ahead and angled toward the landscape and patch. Such a difference.

It really is amazing how something so simple can make such a big impact and really add an element of elegance and extra curb appeal.
