Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer beware I purchased the Cabot moonlite Mahogany for a newly installed cedar deck. All the directions available were followed. It completely ruined my new wood! There are shining patches and dull patches. DO NOT BUY!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cedar Hot Tub Amazing product. They are right about preparing the wood. Took me around 30 hours over a few weeks to finish the tub. From removing the old stain to using brightener and the 2 coats. If you are willing to put the time the final result is amazing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sticky, not the right color. Just finished a project and was more than disappointed. It has been a week now, the deck is still sticky all over, and there is no red in the color. The first coat applied fine by the product description, but it now looks like cheap brown paint after the 2nd coat was applied. The pictures below are from 09/06/2018 and still sticky. The 2nd coat was applied 09/01/2018. I could have just paid $40 for brown paint. This costed me in stain alone over $300. It is absolutely horrible looking now, and I'm sad, and out several hundred dollars for having to fix this job.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sun-Drenched Oak on Adirondack Chairs. I'm happy with the color of the Adirondack chairs I built and stained in sun-drenched oak. It was kind of difficult to get the stain between the slats of the chairs. The first chair I had to do three coats due to the stain being thick/thin in some areas on the second coat. The second chair I was more careful and only had to do two coats. The only minor thing that concerned me with the stain is the feel of the stain on skin since I used it on a chair. It doesn't feel tacky but it also doesn't feel like bare wood. I suppose it has to do with the film forming function of the stain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Change ugly to beatiful It's only been 2 weeks but it is one of my favorite spaces now I would state make sure you Follow the Directions the 1st coat I put with a brush in that was laborious but well worth the effort to get the stain into the cracks The 2nd coat I rigged a very small thick nap roller and a brush a high end brush to a stick Putting on a very light roll and quickly one boarded a time brushing it out really made the finish magnificent you do not have a lot of time to work and do not overwork the paint Weekly comment is it is about 2 weeks later and it still feels slightly tacky even though it is fully dry Excellent product See attached photos

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I think I found my coating So far - great. But - I only just finished, so durability will require a revisit. The application is for furniture. In this case, two tables. I grabbed a scrap slab of counter top granite for a local installer, and built a base and trim out of Port Orford Cedar and redwood (sapwood, e.g. white to heart (red) and everything in between). Also, I did another table out of Port Orford Cedar trunk cut from the mill with a combo of joined strips of western red cedar and redwood (all heart wood). These were all scrap or left over pieces from another deck project. Surfacing: I planed and sanded most surfaces except for the trunk base of PO Cedar. I hogged that down with a belt sander coarse and then block sanded with 120 grit. The coating. I've long been a spar varnish guy. But - winter coating projects had to stop to to air quality. While "Gold" isn't free of the nasties, it's a whole lot easier to take than spar varnish. I for this project I used the Sun Lit Oak. The Mahogany was too dark, and I wanted to show off the contrast of the white PO Cedar and the redwood and western cedar. The Sun Lit Oak is green in the can. Reminded me of baby food - peas. Not to worry. The application: Decent stain brush. First coat indeed revealed a few blotchy areas. I had to work it in on a few areas, but generally it went on quite easy. I did not overwork it. I lightly sanded between coats. It took about 20 hours to dry on the redwood and western red cedar, and about 30 hours on the Port Orford Cedar. The second coat scared me at first until the brush became loaded (not drippy). It flowed on very nicely. Results. Better than I expected. Other reviews, and an email with customer service suggested "sheen". In my opinion, it's a semi-gloss on the finer sanded/finished surfaces. The coarser PO Cedar trunk/block is a satin +. Some rough sawn PO Cedar I used for feet also hold a sheen. Two coats were great. A third coat went on one surface due to dust contaminants. Coverage: Pretty good. Rough cut wood will soak it up. IMO, it's quite effecient on finished/sanded woods. Time will tell. I'll come back in a year or so. We're 1.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean at 1000 feet. We get it all - intensely. Right now I'm very please and planning to use this on some clear grain PO Cedar and clear grain heart wood redwood steam bent chairs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it and the color We stained a log cabin and the decks with Sunlit Walnut. It is absolutely beautiful. Everyone comments on how pretty it is. I hope it holds up, but it is still as pretty as the day we put it on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Porch looks like the deck on rich man's yacht I love the semi glossy look of Cabot Gold. We have used it on both new cypress wood and 2 year old formally stained cypress. We sanded and vacuumed both before application. The first coat is dull, but well absorbed by the wood. We sanded w/ 220 grit and vacuumed before applying the second coat. The second coat is what makes the shine. Surprisingly, there is very little difference in appearance between the old and new wood. I should add that we removed the deck boards to sand them and allowed them to cure in the garage before reinstalling. My only complaint is that for it to look really awesome, it is definitely labor intensive. Hopefully this product will last longer than the last stuff.
