Rated 4 out of 5 by from Has great features but is made for a 7 foot door Just installed it then realized that it is set up for a 7 foot door. With the easy adjustments for how far the the goes up. there's no reason for these opener to not be set up for a 8 foot door. All Chamberlain need to do is have A COVER PROTECTION BOLT hole in the rail for a 7 foot door and a COVER PROTECTION BOLT hole for a 8 foot door. In the same rail!! Problem solved

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great opener - poor needing extension Great product. The fact it says no where (except every single other review) that you need an extension for more than a 7' door is poor. Add to that you can't find the extension kit anywhere. Makes for a very poor customer experience. After doing a ton of research and buying your product, I am now buying an additional $70 item and waiting around for it to ship in 2 weeks without a working garage door. Bad information. Chamberlain should address this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Frustrating Not once was it mentioned that the opener was only for a 7' door. Does anybody actually have a 7' door any more. Read the other reviews.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great opener but a little deceiving I have two garage doors and had a friend replace the 10 foot opener. Then the opener broke on the 8 foot door I called him and he told me the best opener to get to replace it. Of course since he replaces them for a living it did not occur to him to tell me about the 8 FT vs the 7 FT doors. I bought the Chamberlain model 970 and preceded to remove the old one. Once removed I started installing the new opener only to find that it was to short and I needed an extension for the 8 Ft door. Needless to say I was mad. After talking to my friend again he said he has not installed 7 FT garage doored for 10 years and it never occurred to him that the opener would only be 7 FT. I also did read the reviews on the websites until after the fact and found this has been a problem for some time. Since I already have the 7 FT assembled I am not going to repack it and take it back so I bought the extension and installed it. I love the opener and the features but there should be clearing instruction to check the door height first before buying an opener and just maybe have a packed 8 FT door opener for sell at the store instead of a 7 FT. I fell a little cheated.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Unreasonably Expensive You spend a bunch of time selecting an opener with all the desired features, benefits, and pricing. You then discover that an extension kit is required for an 8' door (like who even has a 7 foot door anymore?). By then they have you, and you'll pay the unreasonable price for this 2 piece kit. I was actually impressed with the low cost of the opener....but this extension bit is little slimy if you ask me. Ditto on the exorbitant pricing for extra remotes. Why not just add $40 to opener price instead of over charging us for the accessories and leaving us with a bad taste....when we otherwise would have had a good one? I had a bunch of slack in the belt after assembly, which you can take out with the spring adjustment on the shuttle.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Need 8-ft door extension I did a lot of reviews and read the feature descriptions of several models from Chamberlain and never once saw that this product would be too short for an 8-ft door. Didn't discover this unfortunate mistake until I had it assembled and ready to install on the ceiling. I drove through my neighborhood and out of dozens of homes did not see one house with a 7-ft garage door. Talked to an installer and he said he hasn't seen a 7-ft door in last 10 to 15 years as an installer. Didn't even know they made 7-ft doors with trucks as big as they are and have been for years. To say the least I was very disappointed in this oversight by Chamberlain. I almost disassembly the unit and took it back. I would have but my son and installed it and the door opens far enough to get my truck in the garage. The door hangs down about 5-inches or so. I feel Chamberlain should provide the extension kit free of charge for those of us with 8-ft doors. This would enlighten them to see that most everyone has a 8-ft door. I'm sure they won't because for people like me that discover this deficiency too late will most likely be forced to shell out $50.00 to $70.00 more for the kit that should have been included in the first place. I would recommend this product to a friend however, I will inform them of this deficiency. The features and quiet operation of the unit are all a plus. This is why I rated this product as 3 stars. Had this model worked for an 8-ft door I may have given 5-starts for now and completed a follow up sometime later.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 7 ft. vs. 8 ft. Door I did not realize until I had the opener completely installed that I needed an extension kit for an 8 ft. door. The opener packaging and instructions could have been more clear that it was for a 7 ft. door. It took significant time to remove the newly installed opener and to re hang brackets. Otherwise, the garage door opener and extension kit both work well.
