Trigger issues
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have purchased two of these in past 4 years, the latest has lasted just over the three year mark. First one didn’t last that long but it was my fault. Trigger mechanism seems to be the week point in most of the cordless tools. I was using the drill with a small wire brush to clean some parts working fine, I put it away next day it won’t work. Tried several different batteries same result. 1/2 “ drive impact did the same thing even sent it in for repair a few months later same thing. I hope dewalt has fixed this problem in newer versions.

A very powerful hammer drill in a compact size
Able to drill through concrete with ease.
Can be use for screw driving as well.
Only downside is the chuck will rust (the part where u hold to tighten the drill bit)

Worked until it didn’t.
Bought as part of a combo with an impact driver. This drill has been lightly used for drilling pocket holes and pilot holes in pine boards. Was drilling with a hole saw through a 2x4 today and it blew up inside. Unfortunately, I’m outside of he warranty period. The impact driver is still going strong. But disappointed in this one.

XR drilling power and battery life.
This thing had no problem driving a 1 1/4” auger through many 6x6s on a deck project. One 5 ah battery performs at least a solid days work. Smaller batteries give it same power with slightly lighter weight is good at times.

This one's a beast
Bought the DCD996 this winter to add hammer drill capability to my tool set. Overall, I'm very pleased with the drill. First time out, I used a 4" hole saw to cut through two layers of sheathing. I'm impressed with the power, runtime, and control this tool provides. Even with a 2 amp-hour battery attached, this drill delivers.
My only quibble: the trigger is not as sensitive as the red-colored tools from "the good land".
