Great for backup power during hurricanes and other outages
We live in a rural area in south Georgia and lost power for 5 days during hurricane Idalia. A good friend loaned me his GP6500 once his power was restored and it saved us from loosing food in our refrigerator and freezer plus we were able to run our well and water heater. I was sold and purchased our own GP6500 the next week. He has owned his since before hurricane Irma and purchased it for the same reason.

A few quirks but overall happy with the product
Having an urgent need after a storm for replacing my generator ( that refused to start ), i went looking for a new one. The store had plenty of "off brands" or generic brands i was not comfortable with. I found a GP series 6500 tucked away under the rack. Knowing that Generac has made a reputation for home backup systems, i was willing to chance that they did some thinking before they put their portable generator to market. I liked the setup for the most part and it fired up with one pull (to my relief ). The Documentation was clear , giving plug requirements and a wonderful wiring diagram (thank you). Some things they could improve on is the adding of a Fuel Drain Valve, theft prevention security mounts, and supplying a cover with the unit.

dont waste your money
i have 12.2 hours on this junk. It stays in a climate controlled garage when not being used, i run ethanol free gas only and drain the gas out when its done. We lost power the other night so i went to start it, it wont start and all it does is leak gas out of the carburetor. For what this junk costs its unbelievable how cheap it is

Exactly what I needed
Living in Metro Detroit I unfortunately have the regional power supplier as my electric utility. Unfortunately the power is just a bit less reliable than it is in Afghanistan. After numerous outages and a ridiculous amount of damage I bought this generator.
Unboxed it, put the frame and wheels together, added the oil and gasoline and it starts on the first pull (actually not even a pull - just a tug after the starter engaged). Light enough for me to lift myself, and with the wheels it is easily mobile. More than enough power to run the sump pump, freezer, and refrigerator for short spells during the numerous outages I experience. Extremely easy to use and maintain.
It is unfortunate I need to own something like this at all, but since I do I doubt I could do better. Do the scheduled maintenance and it is always ready and should last indefinitely. Given the track record of the local utility they should be required to provide one for every customer.

Great generator
This generator powers my entire house including heat pump, all electronics including a gaming PC and laptop and oven when the solar panels aren't producing power.
I'm not fond of the Cosense but it's still well worth the money.

Weak spots
Governor rod wore hole out in carburetor. Replacement carb still has plastic throttle lever.
Governor spring tends to break.
I am a heavy duty user. I run this generator about 4 - 14 hours per day. Every day. They last about 1.5 to 2 years under this demand.
Excellent generator. Just bought a third one.

This product is very easy to operate.
Had to purchase a portable generator before a hurricane in order to maintain medical equipment. Based on what I had read, Generac makes a quality, reliable product. This generator lives up to the Generac reputation.
