Sturdy and secure!
After much researching, I decided to go with Petmate to transport my 8.5 lb cat on car rides and was very happy with this decision! I love that I can put her in the top and close it quickly as she is an expert escape artist. Have tried the zippered models but she busts out while I’m still fiddling with the zippers with both hands. Highly recommend this model!

Great carriers that last a lifetime
I now have 5 cats so I needed to add additional carriers to my household. I love the Petmate carriers. Great quality and great price!!

Handle
The handle on this keeps popping off. Should be metal and permanently attached.

Size issue.
I love the top door function and that's why I bought it, but I feel like the small one is just a tad bit small, and the big one is way too big for the average sized cat. Really wish there was an in between size.

Crate
I needed a crate that opens from the top as have a hard time getting my cat into a crate. This one works fine.

get the INSIDE size before buying
We had an old 24" carrier that was too big for our cat, so we got the 19" Petmate 2-door carrier. We measured the cat, and 19" would have been just about right. But 19" is the outside measurement you would use for storage. Inside it is 3" shorter in length, 2" skinnier, and 1" shorter in height. Our cat barely squishes in. We needed it for a vet appt, but we'll be donating it to the nearest shelter now and looking for something else.
Otherwise it is a great carrier, easy to take apart and clean, sturdy, and the top-load feature is a real help with a cat that does not want to cooperate.

Great product
Bought this to replace one that was too small for my cat. He does not like to be in carriers but the top load makes it less stressful for him to be put in and kept in for rides to the vet. I was worried he wouldn't fit through the top (14 pounds) but it isn't an issue

Perfect for cats. Not so much for flying.
I have had one of these for several years and it makes it so much easier not only getting my cat into it but getting them out at the vet. No more having to drag them out a front door.
However...if you plan on using this for air travel and your pet will be going into cargo (as it will since this won't fit under a seat) be aware that many airlines WILL NOT accept this due to the top door. Particularly if it is an international flight. Read everything regarding your airline cargo flight requirements. Air New Zealand for example won't accept this crate nor will Delta. (I have only looked at International requirements as I am moving to New Zealand and taking two cats.)
