Hairs falling off
I bought this brush because of the reviews. I'm not sure if I just got a bad one out of the batch but when using this brush, I had hairs falling out while painting. I had to constantly be picking out the hairs from the painted walls and re-paint over that spot which was pretty annoying.

Natural Oak front door.
I'm not a pro painter but a good craftsman. I used this brush in a 2.5" on a front door I stripped and refinished in place. The brush gave me excellent control of the Spar varnish ( 4 coats ) and never lost a bristle.

Disappointing loose bristles
The general quality of the brush appears to be adequate; approximately the equivalent of the Linzer brushes I had been using but the Purdue brush cost at least half again, maybe twice as much. The bristles feel coarser too me but, I thought, they might cut a more precise line. I was disappointed though that not only was I mistaken in that—the brush felt somewhat ‘mushy’ to me, but in the first half hour of use it
Lost a significant number of bristles in my finish coat.

Useful, but dont last.
I've tried to like the XL series for years, they're the top recommended brush of my mentor and coworkers. But I always encounter the same problems with the XL brushes. When new, the bristles split into 2-3 sections, leaving big gaps for paint to drip out of. Sometimes this splitting goes away after 3-4 uses, in the case of the latest XL 3.5" I bought; It hasn't gone away after a month of use.
The filaments are soft and ideal for fine detail work, but release paint inconsistently. I find myself dipping more than I should have to to get an even coating of paint. Not to mention the filaments bend and get misshapen easily.
And as someone who thoroughly and meticulously cleans my brushes, something about the XL filaments binds to paint. There's no avoiding it in my experience. The paint that begins to dry on the upper part of the bristles near the ferrule always binds to the filaments.
To me it seems this brush is designed to wear out and be replaced quickly. Out of all the brushes I use, the XL's wear and need replacement the fastest.
I like the design of the 3.5" sash, but the filaments used fall short for all the reasons listed above.

This is the brush to buy, forget buying cheap brushes. You get what you pay for.
I have started renewing furniture from garage sales and other places. I had to find out the hard way that when you buy a paint brush it really pays to buy a good one. I purchased the Purdy brand because I trusted it. I display my end products at shows where other people are doing the same. I know people ask "What kind of brushes do you use and paint?" Of course I believe that when I put my name on the finished products they look great, no brush strokes and no loosing hair from the brush it self. Take care of your brushes and they take care of you. I look forward to investing in additional brushes and trying the rollers soon.
