GREAT ENDING FINISHES
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I started using ALL Minwax products stain and polyurethane about 20 years ago while working with my uncle on the side. Since I will only use Minwax stain and polyurethane! Nothing else gets brought in my house at all! The colors are always true and they come out just gorgeous and they are very easy to work with.

Turned my Ikea furniture PINK
Used Colonial Maple 223 on brand new untreated pine bookshelf from Ikea. Followed all of the directions including stirring and wiping after 5 minutes and it turned the whole piece a light coral pink color! Not nearly as rich of a color as I thought it would look and now I am stuck with a pink bookshelf and wasted money

Minwax finish Stain
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used Minwax stain on the first job I did when I started my business in 2000. I love the size of the cans, the mixture of stains, and the clean-up afterward. It goes on smoothly.

Stain doesn't dry; project is ruined.
First thing's first: let's talk about the stripe of woodgrain shown on the label of this product. It would be intuitive for this to show the approximate color of the stain in question; I get that the color of the wood itself will change it a bit so an exact match isn't really possible...on the other hand the labels for the various colors looked like the same color to me, but with a different wood grain pattern. Are they all the same mid-tone brown? Because the "red mahogany" stain I bought isn't very red, which reading these reviews seems to be a common problem.
Project is brand new yellow pine sanded to 220 grit. Applied pre-stain conditioner per that can's instructions: brushed on a liberal coat, let it soak in for ~10 minutes, wiped off excess. Applied Minwax Wood Finish stain, let that sit ~5 minutes, wiped off excess...not much came off. Now I've seen people really trowel this stuff on, put on a good quarter inch of it or so such that you can't see the grain through it...I couldn't get it to do that, it wanted to soak into the rag more than it wanted to go onto the wood. Nevertheless it turned the wood rather brown. It's kinda ugly, too. Blotchy and horrible? So the pre-stain conditioner is also a fraud.
It's the next day and it's still in the same condition; the finish hasn't dried. Still a little bit comes off on a rag if you rub it. I tried putting some finish (Minwax "Tung Oil Finish") on, and the rag turned dark brown like the one I used to put the stain on in the first place. So I'm pretty sure it's just not going to dry and it's going to seep brown gunk forever and will eventually stain everything I own.
