Acrylic deck stain can't stand up to NH weather
Bought 2 3.4L cans of acrylic deck stain to cover a 1000 sq ft wood deck. Deck was cleaned, sanded and prep'd before application. Used a hand brush to apply stain, did 2 coats (waited 48 hours between coats). Conditions were dry and warm (70's) during month of September. Waited at least 3 days before any foot traffic on the stained deck. No rain or cold weather compromised the stain. All was good from Sept to Mid-December when the snow came. Now I have noticed that 1/4 of the deck surface has chipped or flaked away. No heavy shape shovels or anything was used to clear snow. Stain just did not last - pretty pathetic that it couldn't make it more than 4 months. Not worth the money.

Does not last a year. The product is junk and comes off wood even with sanding and proper prep. It is not a stain but a paint, nothing is absorbed into the wood as such it will not preserve wood.

Colors not repeatable even though bought exact sam
Did a ton of research 3 years ago and settled on Cabot. Was redoing a log home and huge deck. I wanted a reddish tint and settled in Redwood for both. The semi transparent deck stain was a pink hue and the semi solid was more like a cedar tone. At that point ($1000+ into the project) I had no choice but to complete it. After 2 years, the deck should’ve been redone, but I didn’t have the time. So it was put off until this year. With ample house sealant left and some deck stain still unopened, I began the immense task of stripping the deck to prep for a COMPLETE redo....well, after stripping, cleaning, drying and restraining all of the several hundred spindles and top boards for the rails, I ran out of the stain. No problem, right? So I picked up another few hundred dollars worth of stain and began on the decking. Low and behold....the exact same stain is NOT the same shade! This Redwood is actually reddish in color. The two stains DO NOT match! So after countless DAYS of wood prep, my decking doesn’t match the handrails or the house. This was the color I wanted 3 years ago for my house and deck. Now what? Restrip the deck AGAIN? Not this year! I am at a COMPLETE loss. Frustrated, tired, sore, BROKE.....

wasted my money as far as beauty
I bought semi transparent deck and siding stain in smoke blue which was shown as a medium grey on the sample. After brushing on I can hardly tell where The stain is and where the original siding is. Hopefully it will protect the wood even if it did not beautify

Didn't Last a full year
I spent good money on Cabot Semi Tramsparent stain last summer and had a professional painter power wash deck and apply two coats of stain did not even last a year it is fading and cracking all over a big waste of money could have saved it and bought a cheaper product that worked.

Very Pleased
We switched to oil-base pigmented stain to end having to deal with chipping or peeling coatings, and haven't looked back. I used it on a tack shed exposed to brutal Montana winter cold, summer heat, and dry conditions. It has performed very well and was easy to touch up at 3 years (one of the great things about an oil-based pigmented stain). I then re-surfaced the deck on the south side of the house (brutal conditions) and have been very happy with the performance. I only had to touch up the stairs at 2 years where heavy traffic began to show. But again, the beauty of an oil-based stain made it a breeze.

Color not true to sample chips in store
We prepped our deck last week and, after some rainy days, finally started to stain this morning. The coverage is adequate, but the color is more like redwood than mission brown. Not sure what we'll be doing next, but this is not the color we chose; if we stay with it, we will be forced to restain all the framing of our adjacent screen room, which was definitely not in the plan. I'll be doing some research to see if staining over with the right color of semi-transparent stain will get us where we need to be.

It was a winner for me!!
Was pleased to have learned that semi-transparent does not chip as paint does. I specifically wanted an oil-based semi-transparent exterior stain so I was happy to have found this product.
Small pump house (disguised as dog house because it's in front yard) of untreated Western Red Cedar lap siding painted with 2 coats of semi-transparent stain (driftwood gray color tint, plastic board trim, galvanized roof). Siding was aged 6 weeks under covered porch before painting all 6 sides of each board prior to installation. After 3 years it looks just as good as the day I painted it.
I didn’t obtain the coverage anticipated but 1 side of the cedar was rough, which likely took a lot of the product to be able to cover. Product is meant to cover 400-500 sf/gallon. I had 110 linear feet of 1x8” (~139 sf if my calculations are correct) and had ~1/5 of gallon remaining.
I plan on stripping the chipped peeling paint on my porch and using this identical semi-transparent stain on it.
