Incredible
We used this on our yard in mid September when we aerated and seeded our yard. Our grass currently looks incredible! Our neighbors grass is starting to turn brown and ours in greener than ever. It is so thick and lush. We were so impressed that yesterday we but down Scott’s Winterguard Weed & Feed. So excited to see how that works - especially since chickweed started to creep in a few weeks ago!

Killed all my new grass
We had seed drilled into our new yard, grass was coming up beautifully. I was recommended to use Scott’s new grass fertilizer to accelerate the process and the next day all my wonderful green grass was now brown and completely gone.
I have a Scott’s seed and fertilizer bucket where I set it to what it said on the bag. Such a waste of time, money, and drilled seed. I now have to pay the company to come back out to clean up this mess and re drill seed in.
I was so diligent in the process and once I laid down this fertilizer all my hard work was gone!
Extremely disappointing, I will never recommend this product to anyone. Maybe I’ll have grass next month.

Texture of clay
I bought this today as tried spreading it in my Scott's manual spreader. It was so wet, the constituency of clay, that it wouldn't spread, I tried to evenly spread it by hand but it was nearly impossible. Is this how this product is supposed to be? I'm fearful of a burned lawn now.

Get Ready To Mow
Maryland had an excessive amount of rain in 2017-2018 which led to a lot of soil damage and grass damage. My usual fall planting with soil amendments worked OK but in Maryland you get used to planting seed every fall. I saw Scott's Turf Builder Starter for new grass and gave it a try in the fall of 2018. Results were good but winter set in and growth stopped. I then went out on a limb and tried a winter sowing along with an application of Scott's Starter food. I didn't expect much of a success rate but as soon as Spring showed up, my grass growth exploded. Grass grew where I thought is was impossible and grew it did. I don't know what Scott's secret is but this stuff works, almost too good. I usually mow once a week but now have been mowing twice a week. Expensive but it sure delivers.

Ratio of sticks, plastic and glass in bag
I used 1/4 of my bag and I had more sticks, plastic (hard and soft) and also small chips of glass. My kids run barefoot and I do not want them to have glass in there feet.

Great for Southern Lawn- new installed Zoysia Sod
An amazing product! I applied it days four after Zoysia turf install. It really gave the new Zoysia sod a jump start to growth in the heat of the summer. This product is incredible! I recommend this as a starter as well as a regular fertilizer when lawns are starting to go “sideways”. The quick results are phnominal!

Environmental impact
We have a dying mother robin on our deck which has a nest nearby after it ingested pellets after application of this product. It really makes you think about the products you put out there in the environment. I'm regretting using this product. What is the price we pay for a green lawn?

Grass Killer
Live in the northeast, Binghamton, NY suburbs. Very dry summer and some small thin spots appeared in the yard. Bought a large bag of Scotts Turf builder grass seed and a bag of the Scotts Turf Builder Starter Food for New Grass. Spent half a day on hands and knees digging up dead grass, planting seed, covering lightly with soil and placing the Scotts starter food on that and around the edges of bare spots. Threw some more seed on other grass as well as the starter food. This was 2 days before a week of good rains hit our area. Nice rains with lots of sun mixed the same days. After 3-4 days, noticed my grass was dying everywhere I spread the starter food. My lawn looks like a joke now. Nothing grew, Grass was killed off-burnt where I put the starter food. The bag says its good for any type of grass. Bullcrap!

Extremely disappointed
I used the starter fertilizer and landscapers mix, some of the seed came up (not even 50%). The new grass turned yellow at root and died after approx 2 wks. I have a lot of time and money in my lawn. I have always used Scott's and never had a problem until this year. Now we are going into 90 degree weather and it's not the ideal time to plant new seed but I have no choice.

overdose
I just applied Calloway fertilizer(phophorous free 21-0-0) in March 12. Until now March 22 my Bermuda grass still does not look good.
I wonder if I can aplly this Scott product Starter Fertilizer on my existing grass.? It says on the bag "for new grass".
I would appreciate if someone out there let me know if it is ok to apply STARTER FERTILIZER?
Thank you

this product has great features
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] sorry I have used scotts grass seed many times but this time I had a large area and no time to wait for it to grow so I had to buy sod but after installing it I used scotts starter fertilizer for new grass.I had a few leftover pieces and I put them on my shrub bed which is filled with goose egg rocks, so I laid the sod right over the rocks and fed it starter fertz. low and behold I had to cut the grass 3x with my trimmer and its still looking great in the winter.great great product.

The only way to go when you want new seeds to grow
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was the secret to growing a lush lawn under a thickly-leaved maple. You still need patients and consistent watering but my neighbors laughed when I tore out the mulch and planted a lawn. That was 8 years ago and, with regular care it is still going strong with no reseeding.

PRODUCT SAVED OUR NEW SOD
We are first time home owners with lawn irrigation and after our initial sod was laid we started having issues with the lawn dying. Not from overwatering, just bad sod. We decided to try Scotts for the first time and at first felt like the product wasn't working and second guessed our decision. Fortunately I changed the watering to evening and withing a week our yard was looking fantastic. Another week later it was even better. Very very happy with this product. Our lawn is the greenest green. Just used the Wintermix, and hoping for similar results.

Awesome Stuff!
We decided to plant seed in our yard instead of sod. Not being too aware of how to go about this, (not aware of how horrible the soil is here) I tilled up the soil last year and put in the seed, after about half a year, it grew up very slowly very short length not doing much... I was getting very frustrated, about ready to give up and just get sod. I went to the store and found this starter food and thought I'd give it one last try.. All I have to say is WOW! My grass started getting length and filling in and it looks awesome! I am so glad I decided to try it and save a lot of money on not buying sod! Thank You Scotts!!!

Grass Was Green Quick
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this for the first time this year rather than starting the season with a weed killer. This was mainly because I seeded early and because this year's winter kept the grass well covered under snow. Using the starter product turned my grass greener than I have seen it in 3 years and it grew at a healthy pace. Did wonders for my lawn this year.

Great starter food for new and established lawns
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As with all Scotts products, I have been nothing but satisfied with this starter food as well. This product won't solve all of your lawn problems, but preparation is the key. When starting a new lawn or repairing problem areas, a good mixture (50/50)of topsoil and compost worked into the area before seeding or feeding makes a world of difference. After adding this topdressing, why use an inferior product? Use Scotts!

MANY PROBLEMS***WILL NEVER USE THIS PRODUCT AGAIN!!!!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When using this product it clogged our spreader many times and we had to unload the spreader, clear it, refill it, and start over. When it would come out of the spreader it was a dust and we are not sure how evenly it was spread on our lawn or where it was blowing to. It also covered both the tractor and the spreader in the dust which lead to a considerable amount of additional clean up time and the waste of the fertilizer. Too many problems with this product and definitely not worth the effort. We will never purchase or use this starter again, A huge waste of almost $100.00.

Grass seeds on Steroids!!!
I applied Scott's Turf Builder Starter food for New Grass last fall on a reseeded lawn in a recently built home. After applying Scott's seeds, Starter Fertilizer was applied about a week and a half later, when some of the seeds started to germinate. This fertilizer acts as a steroid for recently germinated seeds making them grow faster and greener. It also makes the existing grass thicker and healthier. Based on my short experience with Scotts product, I will be their customer forever!!!

This prodcut worked as advertised.
I had two areas in my yard in which I planted new grass seed. One area I used Scott's, the other area I used another brand. The Scott's area came in thicker, greener and faster than the other area.

Lush results every time
As a turf maintenance pro I use and recommend Scotts TB Starter. It spreads nicely and yields instant gorgeous results. One of the benefits of Scotts fertilizer formulations is that each tiny pellet has all of the nutrient rather than having some N, some P and some K pellets as most other fertilizers have. One hint for spreading is to use flags 5' to 8' apart depending on your spreader. Spread rates are given for 5' spacing so you may need to increase the setting when using wider rows. I also use different flag colors to prevent criss-crossing rows. #Happens to the best of us#.
Besides for turf I also use this Starter Fertilizer as a general phosphate fertilizer such as in soil mixes with good results.
The only con is sometimes getting a bag that has been subjected to moisture. I usually drop the bag a few times before a open it to break up lumps. Make sure you store it in a dry location.

It is AMAZING at how much and how quickly my grass seed came up! Great product!
We plant rye winter seed in the fall. Last year I asked a professional landscaper, who is now a friend, how he wAs able to get his yards he tended to have such excellent results. The yard in particular is my neighbors. It appeared that every seed came up. He told me to use a starter like Scott's.
I was truly AMAZED at the results.

Great use for new seeding
Used with new seeding in one part of yard. Where used with seed compare to areas I did not use the area I used starter was faster and better growth.
