Worthless.
Horrible growth rate, even after providing the most meticulous setting for germination. Patchy growth, large bare spots. I've used fescue seed every fall here (Atlanta, GA) for 10 years and this was the worst outcome. Scotts: Don't bother listing your lengthy "make sure you do this, this and this" like you did on the other 1-star review. Everything was done correctly by a professional. Your seed was garbage.

No germination !
After two 40 lbs bags I have nothing. Rented a dethatcher and prep the lawn. Planted mid September which couldn’t have been better timing. Watered. We have nothing after more than a full month. I should have read the reviews. The number of similar reviews is amazing. Bought a different brand seed to plant this weekend to avoid backyard full of mud this winter. Ridiculous.

Still waiting for a seed to sprout ????
In late April, I overseeded my fescue lawn to address some thinning areas that needed attention. I have a sprinkler system so it's easy to set the timer to water a couple times a day to keep the seed moist. I always take my time and prep the areas before seeding...
I have used Scotts seed for years and never had such pitiful results....This has gotten very expensive and time consuming for an old guy.

So far, so good
I’m in Southern Virginia (Lake Gaston) and planted this seed 2 weeks ago (after plugging and fertilizing lawn). Water it every day for 15-20 minutes and have had great seed germination and growth. This was an already established lawn so I’m hoping the Gold grass will eventually take over the clover and other grass that is already growing.

Terrible Grass Seed Spring 2021
I seeded and fertilized (starter fertilizer) my lawn 16 days ago and not one sprout of new grass. I have purchased other Scott's grass seed and always had success. Do not buy. Now in mid-April I need to start all over again.

Very tender, easily damaged
I bought this seed about a month ago for patching and overseeing. I followed the directions for prep and used Scott’s lawn soil as well. The grass came in but the shoots are. Sry tender and just running a light weight push mower over it damaged it and killed it in places. While I realized it may take a season to mature It just doesn’t seem to be very robust.

Applied two weeks ago. Most of the seed has not germinated. Worst seed I’ve tried so far. Batch was from August.

Highly disappointed
A few weeks back I reseeded my entire lawn with two bags of grass seed. One was Scotts Souther Gold and the other was a totally different brand. I seeded half of the lawn with one seed and the other half with the other seed. The Scotts seed barely grew at all. I mean weeks later its just dirt for the most part. Meanwhile the other side of the lawn was thick and about 3 inches tall. Each part of the yard got the same amount of water and has had 100% of the same process. I cannot state how disappointed I am in this seed especially when it was about 60% more expensive than the other brand. This will be the last time I ever try Scotts.

Horriblr option for TRUE southern lawns!
Bought this "Southern Gold" formulated for southern lawns seed last fall and planted here in north Georgia. Prepped the soil, fertilized, planted, watered and had a beautiful lawn all through winter and early spring. Fertilized again in spring and as soon as it got warm (June) it started to brown even with plenty of regular rainfall and moderate temperatures. By July it was BROWN BROWN! All other yards in the neighborhood lush green due to regular rain fall. Yard is not even full sun! Seed packaging said "grown in Oregon"...so what, its for southern OREGON??? Hate this product and the work I will have to do AGAIN this fall with a better true southern seed.
Pic1 - early spring lush green grass
Pic 2 and 3 what it looks like now.
Pic 4 next to neighbors green grass.
This seed is NOT SOUTHERN GOLD!!!

Worked Great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very high quality product. Worked fast and stayed healthy and strong. Very good value for price. Just another top notch product from the Scott's brand. I would highly recommend this and the other products they carry.

Horrible
Southern Gold is a complete waste of money. Seeded bare spots 3 times this spring under ideal conditions. In total less than 20% germination.

Did not germinate
We overseeded our winter rye with this in early spring AND used the Scotts Starter Fertilizer. The rye is gone, and we are left with nothing but a sparse, and dusty yard. No Southern Gold Mix grass at all! We went from having the nicest, greenest lawn on the street to the worst. I do not recommend this for overseeding. Our neighbor used an off-brand and has a beautiful and lush green lawn.

Disappointed!
We bought the Southern Gold Mix with watersmart technology and the first section we did turned out amazing! The second section we did (about a week later) didn't take at all! We tried again and it still didn't take! We just wasted a lot of money. Very disappointing!!!!

Just an example of a terrible product.
I have purchased this twice in the last two months and this is by far the biggest garbage that I have ever purchased. This seed is worthless. I will post this on Fasebook. What a waste of my money.

inconsistent mix
Did my yard at two separate times, first time came in with beautiful fescue, second time it was all tall fescue that looks more like crab grass (but isn’t) than fescue. Yard looks horrible on one side and great on the other

Great product.
I planted this seed 2 weeks ago in south FL as it is too cold for other kind of seed to establish, some have more that 1 inch height, It is coming up nicely considering I don't have other grass and you can see it growing. I look forward to seeing how it holds up to our hot summers.

Sturdy mixture
I bought this seed three weeks ago, I would say 78% germinate to date. I Feel if it wasn’t for the amount of wood chips in the Scott’s lawn soil it would have been closer to 98% gemination. For the price of Scott’s lawn soil they obviously are pretty proud of it, I would suggest they sift the (mulch) chips out.

Quick grow grass but
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This seed really does take off and grow 2 or 3 inches but then it seems to wash away with our first rain. I have been using Scott top soil and potting mix but it does not seem to stay and continue to grow.

Great Sod Repair
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used “Southern Gold” to fill in some bare spots after the Florida rainy season. The seeds took root quickly and filled in the bare patch perfectly. You can go wrong with Scott’s lawn products and the price is right!

Green grows the lawn
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Early use of Turf Builder has brought my lawn back to life. A few areas were left bare because of winter kill.

Grows anywhere!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used Scotts Turf builder Grass Seed Southern Gold Mix for Tall Fescue Lawns in a couple of different spots of dead Fescue on my lawn, in the shade and the sun. It was very easy to apply and started coming up in all those areas in around a week, sunny and shady areas. I am very impressed. It looks like it will hold up well. I do recommend trying for hard to grow areas.

Fills in bare spots and grows quickly.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Good mixture of seed for all around the yard. Full sun to my shaded areas. Fills in high traffic walked area well. Grew quickly in a about a week and fills in with my original lawn and matches well. Some seeds stand out like a patch with a different color, this looks like it is all one lawn. With the coating on the seed takes a lot less water and has food for the new lawn, a great combination. A great product.
