Taking This Back For a Refund
The composition is closer to mulch or bark. Contained more sticks, branches and chunks of wood than actual soil.

Terrible. Sticks, wood chips. Mushrooms growing
Used 10 bags of this to reseed an area. It is full of wood chips and sticks as big as my thumb. Grass seed doesn't grow too well in this junk. And bonus: a new crazy kind of mushroom is growing in the grass-free stick areas. I've never seen this fungus before in my yard. I thought I was buying a premium product, but I am very disappointed. I'm going to have to rake out the sticks and use something else and try growing grass again in the bare spots. Will be asking for a refund.

Product worked great with pre-germinated seed
I bought this a month ago and after letting it sit for a week, I laid it out over an area of lawn for repair/patching with pre-germinated perennial rye grass. Worked like a charm on my cheap, no-name grass seed.

This has very little soil if any so if you want twigs and bark in your lawn th3n buy this product but for me I had to rake out 6 bags out of my lawn . And get soil to grow grass. Buyer beware this is garbage . I wish I would of read reviews prior to buy this garbage.

contains a LOT of junk
I picked up three bags for a small area that was a play area --the contents seemed more bags of debris than soil. Would not recommend it - I eventually had to rake up and dispose of a considerable percentage of the contents - not good.

Disappointed
I purchased 4 bags of this product today, after purchasing 4 more earlier this spring. The bags purchased earlier, had very little 'filler' as compared to the ones purchased today. Very disappointing, I suppose that the added sticks and rocks are what Scotts calls the "composted material"? I like to walk around on my lawn in my bare feet, uncomfortable to do when you stop every step to pick up a small stone or stick. Hey Scotts, I would gladly pay 20-30% more for product that didn't contain the added sticks and rocks in your product.

This is Lawn "Mud"--not soil
This product should be called "Lawn Mud". The contents of the bag was soaked in water and totally useless until I spread it out in my wheelbarrow and let it dry out for several days. I know Scott's will claim they can't control how retailers cover their products from the elements, but there is NO WAY that amount of moisture leaked into the bag--the soil was soaking wet when it was placed in the bag. When I cleaned out my wheelbarrow, I noticed the fine black dust that remained. I think Scott's is putting coal dust in this "soil" to make it appear blacker than it actually is. I had to use Lava soap to remove the black dust--it was NOT soil. I have given up on buying this product--it is not as advertised and very difficult to work with. I would include photos showing how it came out of the bag and the coal dust I mentioned, but there's no link on the review webpage that lets me do that. ?????

Disappointed Customer
Well this will be the last time I purchase this product. I purchased 30 bags and I wish I had read these reviews prior to that purchase. If this is your response to all of your customers regarding all of the wood chips, debris and such in your product then I guess we won’t be purchasing your product. My lawn has more wood chips in it than soil. When spreading the product I ended up with piles of wood chips that I then had to remove. Very disappointed as I purchased Scott’s because of its previous reputation.

Scotts Turf Builder LawnSoil‚
Purchased 5 bags of Scotts Turf Builder LawnSoil and it contained wood chip twigs , stones and very little soil. I have been using this product for years and this was so bad my neighbor said " why are you mulching the middle of your lawn. horrible product now !!! stay away from this product. I would suggest Scotts changes there vendor and go back to the original provider who actually provided "soil " and not debris.

Buy it now!
Absolute best product available for your yard! I've been using this for a few years and am constantly telling people about it. We use it when areas get stressed from the heat, when I've removed crap grass and on our bamboo. This isn't a one time fixes the problem soil. You have to keep applying it, but it works! If you have a bare area you have to keep applying it until the grass fills in. If you have a stressed area one good application usually does the trick. I am so glad I found this product.

Not really a good base soil
Just put a couple of bags down and it is more of a mid-level shredded mulch consistency. Disappointed that it wasnt more of a high level Compost soil.

Lots of twigs
I purchased 16 bags thinking that this would have been a good option for overseeding. I found that a good amount of the product was wood chips, mulch and very little soil. it could be so much better if it was screened and if it was disclosed how much mulch and other matter was added to the mix.

Great product
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We use this to spread across our lawn in the spring. It helps to keep the grass growing nice and giving us even ground. We had to tear up a large portion of our grass where the weeds were out of control. We laid this down with grass seed and it grew back in really nicely.

I even used to plant a couple of perennials.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used Scott's products for years, mostly just those that involve fertilizer or controlling of weed. I used several bags of this in various parts of the yard and despite a lousy spring into summer, hot and cold, wet and dry, I cleaned up several areas.

Weeds and debris
I was filling some bare spots in my yard after getting new irrigation and used a combination of Scott’s Lawn Soil and Shade and Sun seed mix. While the new grass seed took well, I also have an extreme amount of prostate and purslane weeds. I’ve met had these before. This is the first time I’ve used this soil and the only time I’ve had this issue, so I’m assume the soil was not as contaminate free as advertised.

What happened?
I have purchased this product for years to fill bare spots and reseed areas of my lawn. It's never failed that I could quickly grow weed-free grass. This year ALL the bags I have purchased are poor quality -containing sticks, mulch and plastic particles. I haven’t been able to grow any grass. I am highly disappointed in no grass growth for the price of this product.

FRUSTRATED!!!
I bought this product to help grass grow in quicker after having the porch redone. I did everything the bag stated. I have tried planting grass seed twice now and nothing has come up. Very frustrated, as I have used Scott products for years! I will never buy this soil again. Wish I hadn't wasted my money on this -14 bags and alot of wasted money!

wood chips ?
Purchased as a top dressing for sparse areas of lawn. Expected topsoil with fertilizer as advertised, but unfortunately the product is mostly small wood chips. After watering, the soil portion seems to work into the native soil, leaving a layer of wood chips that need to be raked up. Long time Scotts customer: disappointed.

Watch out for the mulch
I bought a coue of bags to reseed a couple of 3x4 areas. As the grass seed has grown in you need to rake out the mulch. The grass is much thinner in those spots because of the mulch.once the soil settles you really see how much mulch there is

Scotts calls this soil…I think not
This “lawn soil” is awful and way to expensive to be called lawn soil. Too much bark, sticks and chunks of wood plus some added plastic garbage and rocks which was even more disappointing. Unfortunately I bought 5 bags of this crap and since I had already prepared the yard for seeding I couldn’t take the time to return it so I had to use it. Hopefully the Scotts seed I bought will sprout and grow. Wood chips are not good for the lawn as it causes fungus and mushrooms ugh! Will never buy this again! Also purchased Scotts topsoil which was a little better but still had bark pieces just not as much

It Worked Really WELL!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used multiple brands of top soil and this Scott product with my grass seed really worked. What ever is in the soil worked when the directions are followed. Very pleased. I have tried for 3 years and this combination really worked.

Great texture
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I never really thought that this soil would be any different than regular soil, but it is. I try to use this anytime that I need to patch the yard with new seed. This really provides a great texture for the new seed to root into.

Scotts turf builder LawnSoil Review
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this product as a base to start new grass seed in a worn section of lawn. After cultivating the worn area I applied the lawn soil and then Scotts grass seed on top working it slightly into the soil. After several weeks I have had minimal grass growth even after watering regularly.
I am not impressed with this product! I have had better luck in the past using peat moss along with grass seed to repair an area.

Whether the weather will cooperate is the?????
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Combined with our EasyGrass sample we expect to have grass growing in the next two weeks once the frozen tundra softens and warms up. Still having freezing temperatures at night. Need a few more weeks to confirm it’s effectiveness.
