Rated 5 out of 5 by from Owned for Years. I bought this knife over 10 years ago. This knife is a lot like many knives. It is a modern version of a folding hunter knife. The blade still cuts now as the day I bought this knife. I bought this knife for work. I was a labourer in a factory. We cut straps quite often. Cheaper knives where ok. But losing that edge in the middle of work was not cool. The downfall of it was that. If the lock was not engaged. The blade could open up in your pocket. IF you are not carrying it properly. I also had blade play. I was able to fix the blade play by removing the spring. NOW, I love this knife. I know that newer versions of this knife have fixed the issue I had with blade play. I still like my older one. It is a great blade that I use all the time. Around the home, on vacations, when I labour, and well honestly I would eat with it but my wife said no.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My wife loves it too! I bought it for the look and the assisted opening. I bought it for my wife because she hates liner locks and she loves my Trident. I don't think I've ever used the line/belt cutter feature, but I've sure used the rest of this knife a lot. We are both volunteer fire fighters and the Trident is our fire knife.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Elk Hunt I bought this for my boyfriend just in time for him to go elk hunt with his bow. He got a cow and was able to skin and quarter the meat with this knife. That's what's up! He's so very happy with it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Impossible to open one-handed, clip broke off... This knife is almost impossible to open one-handed using the thumb stud. That being said, if you do exert enough pressure for the thumb stud to be functional, the blade does snap open effectively...if you can get past the pain caused by the stud to your thumb. Just know ahead of time that you will have to endure pain, and then the thumb stud will make the blade snap to attention quite impressively. However, because it takes so much force with the thumb, I've always had to open it it with two hands, and then the "assisted open" limply pumps the blade out half way, and you have to flip it open the rest of the way with either quick-flip wrist action or just pulling the blade to the locking position with the other hand...I have just not found this knife to be very user friendly. Also, my pocket clip, which originally was too tight/stiff, has since stretched out of shape, & now has broken off completely...just snapped right off (my fault, as it got stuck/snagged on the chair I was sitting in). Have not tested the glass-breaking nipple, or the belt-cutter, but wish the belt-cutter slot was on the other end of the knife as I have come close to slicing the opening to my pocket trying to secure the knife with the too-tight pocket clip...be careful! Blade is extremely sharp and functional: kudos! Other than the things mentioned, a nicely designed knife, and probably worth the price if you can get past its shortcomings. Don't get your hopes up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great multi use knife I've had my trident for as long as they have been available. It goes everywhere I can take it. It is easy to sharpen, holds an edge fairly well, and the assist open is just as strong as it was when new. I did have the pocket clip break off, but SOG mailed me a new one for free.
