There's a few tricks to get around this which shouldn't be necessary, but anyways it seems to get around the design flaw. The obvious one is don't use thin or cheap sandpaper, the thicker the paper the more hold it seems to have under the clamp. I use gator brand. Secondly when you insert the paper under the clamp, push it a little past the plastic stopper. Push it a little over it if you can, and make sure the sandpaper is pulled taut so there is little play. Next, spray the underside of the sandpaper, and the area under the clamp with silicone spray. Another trick, use that warranty paper included in the box as an extra layer to put under the sandpaper since it's the same size and makes it thicker. Or use construction paper. Lastly, a trick used for bicycle brakes, bend the levers downwards without snapping them so that they apply more pressure to the paper once in place. Once these are followed, you have a nicely functioning sander.

Rated 2 out of 5 by KenBrokenSander from Short Life Sander Used this just a few hours of actual sand time. The springs clips that are supposed to hold the sand paper in place are too weak and don't work. It would be an easy fix to make the springs (replacement springs) slightly larger diameter and hold the paper with more force but that apparently is not cost effective so the purchaser is left with useless junk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by kathy from very disappointed I bought it because of the vacuum attachment. after using it i have it very difficult to hold it in place. it rotates uncontrollably. the flimsy sand paper bar won't hold the 1/4 sheet of sand paper. I have adjusted the screw several times with little success. the only paper that will stay is the stick on type.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Sue68 from Doesn't fit sanding sheets! Have not actually been able to use this sander. The sanding sheets (even the ones included in box) are too small. You can barely get the bars to grip the paper, so as soon as you start sanding they pull off. The only way I could possibly use it is to buy full sheets and cut them larger - wasteful. Why couldn't you design this sander so you have even just another 1/4" to get a grip?!?

Rated 1 out of 5 by Jacob from Good for One Job Only !! Used it once to sand down a couple of deck boards. When I tried to add another sandpaper pad the metal clip that holds the sandpaper broke off, SO, now a useless piece of equipment. Also verrry difficult to load the sandpaper.
