cost engineered to fail
I replaced a Milwaukee hammer drill with this Bosch unit. I was able to drill three 2 inch deep x 3/4 inch holes in concrete before the unit stopped working. As many have posted the plastic holder for the carbon brushes had melted. Of course, while new, the unit is a few years old an out of warranty. I'll order a new holder and pass this on to someone who can use it for light duty. This unit should not be advertised as a heavy duty product in my opinion.

Strength and weight right for the job
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased several weeks ago and so far only once for drilling in concrete, which it accomplished with dispatch.

Not great
I've had this drill a couple of years and have used it for drilling metal and 3/8 and smaller holes in concrete. The drill has worked great until this week when I needed to drill some 1/2 inch holes in concrete. I got 6 holes drill and the switch burnt up. I ordered a new switch and installed
The drill started right up. I got 2 and 1/2 more holes when the new switch burnt up. The switch will not hold up to much of a loaded for very long.
The drill will burn up switches under a load. I burn out 2 trying to drill 1/2 inch holes in concrete

Decent features, poor performance
Bought this drill a few years back for light duty work and didn't use it much. Was looking to drill 8 1/4 inch holes in concrete 3 inch concrete. Very small and easy task for this drill as I didn't want to use my larger Makita rotary hammer. Or so I thought. On the hammer drill setting using the higher speed the drill lasted 3 holes and stopped working in the forward setting. This was while using a brand new Milwaukee bit. The drill only worked in reverse. Checked the brushes and appeared to have melted some of the plastic house. Didn't find any evidence of electrical shortages, just didn't function anymore after 3 holes. Bosch usually makes decent tools but this is definitely not one of them. Very disappointed in the quality which is way all my rotary hammers tend to be Makita. The other reviews are right, if you want to drill concrete, get a Makita. They are leaps and bounds better when it comes to quality and eat concrete. This drill is probable good for drilling soft woods (pine, etc) but any weak drill can do that for far less. Stay away if you value quality and your money.

Not what Bosh tools used to be!
Quality of parts not made for everyday use. Ideal for showcase because they look good!
Even with light use, it overheats
Brush holders made of plastic melted, no replacement parts and no warranty
This is my third Bosch impact drill ( and my last) so i have seen first hand the quality drop in each new products

Smoke after 6 weeks!
I used that drill to do some renovation in my basement. After only 5-6 times, it started to smoke. The tool is powerful, but doesn't last, even for a residential use. I do not recommend this tool.

Heavy Duty
I have just received this from Amazon a couple of days ago, so to be fair I can't say a lot about this drill yet! It is heavy built and seems to be well made, but I have not had the chance to use it yet. I'm a little concerned that the hi-lo gear change does not take place when you turn the selector knob until you actually turn the chuck after switching gears! Not sure if that's normal or not? Only time will tell.

Great Product
Used this drill to cut through 1/4" steel plate on a stairwell.Used a 4" Hole saw with cutting fluid and this drill made my job fast and easy compared to a previously used Milwakee.
Very powerful and steady drill.Thank you Bosch.
