Just ok
I bought this like a year ago and liked it at first but very quickly realized the protection shield is just too small. Biggest drawback is the spool cover kept falling off until it no longer fit properly. To replace the cover I have to buy a complete quick feed spool which is about 30% the cost of the trimmer. I’m just going to sell as is and go with Milwaukee or some other brand.

Terribly disappointed!
The first one I assembled, and the guard fell off after a few uses. When this happens, the screws to attach it are lost in the mess and it’s hard to find replacements. Even if replacement parts were easily available, should I trust it would not just fall off after a couple uses again? My second trimmer had the same issue. That’s right! I had to buy another one!
That’s because my story gets worse!
After approximately 2 months of use, the first trimmer failed. Engine began to smoke, and never worked again. I had already invested in other tools that use the battery, so I decided to try again, because the battery is much of the cost of the tool, and at least I could have another battery to rotate out during lawn sessions. After the guard fell off the first day of use (the hardware store put this one together), I decided to just leave it off and take the pain. The new trimmer worked for approximately 3 weeks, and it too went up in smoke.
From what I understand, we can’t return these to the place of purchase, so ultimately I feel stuck with it. Not sure I want to deal with a return process, if I know it will fail again, and I’ll come full circle.
I also bought the pole saw, and pole hedge trimmer.
I had to work on the pole saw several times, but at least it can return to functionality.
The pole hedge trimmer seems to be working fine, but it is only a week old.
I have to get work done around here, and now I have to find another weed trimmer.
It is a shame , because the concept is wonderful, and while operational, it works incredibly well. I was very impressed.
I don’t know how to move forward because I had invested in an entire system of tools, and the weed trimmer was the most important of my purchases.

Sucks
Has no where to put the string once you have it wrapped. Good luck keeping tension and trying to fit the string throw the slots. Never used a more poorly designed weed eater…

Garbage. Burnt out after 10 minutes light use
This is junk, major waste of money. Smoking after ten minutes of light use trimming grass that was short. It still worked after letting it cool down for one more second go, now it starts to spin up and immediately dies. Will no longer work at all. Complete crap. Never had a deeply tool that was so bad before, cannot believe they even released this garbage

Junk
I always thought Dewalt sold quality tools until I purchased the 20V weed trimmer....this is junk. After 1 year of very light use it won't stay running (motor issue) and the string feeder cover is worn through. From what I can tell you can't get the cover only the entire spool. Total rip off very disappointing as warranty is useless as it doesn't cover motor or labor.

Poor Quality
Used for one season and was OK. Next season the motor quit. Bought this because I have other Dewalt tools and they work fine. Looking at reviews on other sites it is obvious that the motor has issues that Dewalt must be ware of. Very disappointed.
