Disappointing - pivoting head poor design
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have owned this trimmer for 3 years. It has always been a problem for the cutting head to be stable - the pivot head allows end of tool to move too much > 1" when new, becoming horrible as the tool has aged. The lack of a good locking mechanism is frustrating. The locking mechanism is a metal ring with holes in it, A thumb trigger on the head is pulled back, this allows a pin to release or lock in place. This is where the design falls severly short - the metal ring on the trimmer side only has a small tab that the plastic case has to absorb all of the weight/force on the trimmer head. On the pole side the plastic trigger pulls back a very short pin, so again a great deal of force is on plastic parts. Just as this has fallen off warranty, the head will no longer stay locked. I made some attempts to remove the beveled edge of the pin that goes into the guide ring to prevent the pin from backing out of the trimmer head metal ring. This only had a small improvment. The flexible head lock/support needs significant improvement. A larger ring and metal support parts would be needed to make this tool durable. I do not see improvements in the product design, therefore I am considering other pole trimmers that have well built pivot head. I do love my other DeWalt products, this one is an exception.

Gets the job done!
The trimmer made the job of annually trimming Japanese maple branches much easier than trying to use pole pruner. I'm all DEWALT when it comes to tools. I have not had any problems with the arsenal that I own.

Great attachment for pole saw.
I really like how easy it is to hook this up and trim my bushes. The adjustable angle is amazing for trimming the top of them. It does get tiring holding unit over your head. But it is very easy to trim bushes, cuts through like butter.

Extremely Pope quality.
I purchased this pole trimmer one month ago and am very disappointed with the quality. No matter where I position the trimmer head it flexes about one inch making accurate trimming impossible. I called the DeWalt customer service and was told to take the tool to an authorized service center. I took the trimmer to the Wilkinson Blvd service center in Charlotte NC and was. Promptly told that is the way all the trimmer heads work. I could leave it but there was a three week week backlog and there would probably be no difference on its return. So much for DeWalt quality. Last DeWalt tool I’ll ever purchase. I do not recommend their tools or quality.

Not great
I love my dewalt products, so when I saw I could get this to attach to the pole saw I had I jumped right on it. However, this one misses the mark in a few ways. The pivoting lock is very sloppy, it moves quite a bit when locked into position. It is also heavier than I expected. These two issues work with each other and against you, now you have a heavy end that is moving while you’re trying to balance it. One of the things I really hoped to do with it was trimming apple tree shoots at the base of the trees. I usually do this with a hand help hedge trimmer, but thought this would be great since I wouldn’t have to bend down. The weight of it makes it extremely awkward to do anything low, and when doing anything above your head the pivot constantly moving is also awkward and makes it a bit more dangerous. The only real positive I see in it is it has plenty of power, but putting it on a unit that requires the motor to be at the end rather than shaft driven just makes it too heavy. Unfortunately this is the very first of many dewalt tools I’ve been disappointed with. Oh well.

A tool I wanted to exist
Amazing! As an avid landscaper personally, for my church and my community it has saved me hours. I can trim much taller and yes wider. Example: 8’ht x10’w scrub, 5’ wide ground cover, low branches on trees. Also, pairs with chain saw extension pole.

Very capable, easy to use.
I used this once for some tree branches that I just could not reach with a ladder and chain saw. Much easier and safer to do it from the ground. It takes some getting used to on the balance and handling; but it is a nice saw for the money. I have several 20V max tools so I like that all my batteries are interchangeable.
