Love most DeWalt tools...but not this one
Just bought this. The ratcheting works great but the bit storage in the handle is poorly designed. The bits don't stay in the holders. I logged into the DeWalt website to see if there was a 'trick' that I was missing, but seems like many others have had the same experience. This defeats the purpose of having a multi-bit driver. I'd recommend buying a different product.

Inconvenient convenience
This multi bit ratcheting screwdriver fails because its storage of the bits went backwards on previous designs. Rating would be improved if this was a one bit ratcheting screwdriver, as it was easy for my wife to use when set up ready to use. But any long term user will quickly learn the bit storage becomes a loose storage only zone, and thus dumps out on you when purposefully and accidentally opened. Thus you have store the bits separately, defeating the primary aspect this tool was designed around. This was the only DeWalt tool I have ever discarded in the trash. I kept the bit shaft and use that as a bit extension for my drills. This was an impulse purchase during xmas shopping, should have read reviews first.

this thing is a gem
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] a subtle detail too often missed is how easy it "ratchets" when you backturn ... if i'm trying to start a screw and i get 1/8th turn before needed to ratchet back before attempting to continue screwing, then that ratchet needs to backturn very easily - this does that. i've had other ratchet screwdrivers that need more force to ratchet which makes it harder to start new screws in awkward places. it also helps a lot that this tool isn't too long, you can put a small bit on there and fit into tighter places than something with a longer handle woudln't

Bit Storage Design Ruins Ease of Use
My family and I have been buying DeWalt products since the 1990s. I'm a die-hard DeWalt supporter. But this screwdriver is horrible.
The worst part is the bit storage. The bits are hard to get out, and impossible to get back inside, in such a way that they'll actually stay in place. While you're using it, you constantly hear the bits rattling around. When you open it, many of the bits are loose, and come flying out. VERY easy to misplace bits, and is extremely unsafe if you're working on a ladder or in a confined space, because you're constantly climbing down or changing your position to pick up lost bits. Mine is extremely difficult to slide the bit carrier out, so I can't even "ease" it out in an effort to not drop all the bits.
The bit holder is extremely bulky and does not fit into tight places. The ratcheting mechanism and handle seem stout enough, but their quality is offset by the poor ease of use.
Very disappointing, especially from a brand like DeWalt. I'd have expected these design flaws from a typical big-box store's in-house brand, but not from a professional-grade company like DeWalt. Very sorry I purchased this piece.

Works as I expected
I haven't had any issues with this driver as some other people have stated. The only thing I don't like is the main shaft is loose, it hasn't fallen out on its own, but it's looser than I'd like. Also I haven't had any issues with ratcheting mechanism, and I've had this tool for six plus months, using it almost all the time. Also the bit storage holds the bits fine, but it's very firm getting the storage up and down. The direction switch works great for forward and reverse. Besides it's few faults, I really like this screw driver, makes me wonder why I didn't get a ratcheting screw driver sooner.

this is a good tool.. just use it
after seeing the reviews... i did not buy this as a " bit holder" used it for over a year.. bought my friend one for xmas.. love the fell and the ratchet has given us zero issues. like the long extent ion, but we have used it in many tight places by just using the handle with a bit or nut driver bit.

Cleverly designed screwdriver has design flaws.
I just purchased the DeWalt Ratcheting screwdriver. I am not mechanically inclined to say the least and I thought I was crazy and too stupid to figure out how to store the tips in the handle until I started reading the reviews. Then I noticed on the package is states (up to 12) and that should have given me a hint. The whole point of the product is to have the tips available in the tool handle while you are working so you do not have to stop and look for them. In addition you have to find a place to store them in another container. Hopefully the screwdriver will last and not have quality issues like other customers have experienced. I feel reassured with the Lifetime Guarantee. If it doesn't work like it is designed to I can request a replacement under the warranty.

Nice and tough
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this 3 weeks since starting a new job where I’m always driving different types of screw heads. I like the extra long shaft and ratcheting function. Can only give 4 stars because the bit holders inside the handle are a little hard to put the bits all the way in the sleeve which sometimes causes them to fall out when you open the storage part up.

My favorite
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this about a year ago and truly love it. I have carpal tunnel on both my wrists and standard screwdrivers make it hard for me to stay consistent with screwing or unscrewing this screw driver allows me to unscrew or screw all the wal without stopping g and feeling numbness in my hands

A year of heavy use
I bought this after I purchased my house. I have used this screwdriver everyday working on things in my garage. The ratcheting mechanism is great for tightening screws around the house. It will never replace my standard screw drivers, but for the everyday homeowner I’d say it’s a good product. My only complaints are that the shank often falls out when working at certain angles. I solved this by glueing it in permanently. Also the bit storage is utterly useless that’s not a problem for me because I have other places to store them. I think it’s made in China which is a bummer because I love supporting US manufacturing. All in all it’s a great tool!

Ratching Mechanism
Bought this about a year about using it rarely, maybe once a month. Then was working on a project where I used it for a couple hours for about 5 days, and now the ratcheting mechanism is broken for tightening, still works on loosen.

Ratchet stripped after one use
Disappointed, as DeWalt generally is a safe buy. The ratchet failed after one use. I can ratchet in reverse, and I can drive in the middle position (unratched) but the forward ratchet slips and the mechanism sounds like teeth have been broken.

Bit Holder
The bits are stored inside the handle, when you open it to get out a bit they all fall out. Bits wont stay in the holder. This is the only thing I hate about it

Frustrating to use
I was excited to get my new ratcheting screwdriver but after lots of use I've grown frustrated. 1) it rolls on even a slightly uneven surface, 2) most importantly, the bit storage has a really poor "User Interface." The little tray holder in the handle is 1) hard to grasp, 2) snaps open sending the bits flying, 3) hard to switch bits in and out of the plastic holders, and 4) then hard to close unless you align the bits by hand first. Interesting solution, but poor execution. Not a pleasant bad user experience.

Works good
Works as advertised. The only problem is when you open the bottom to access the bits the ones on the top can get dislodged and fall out.
