Rated 5 out of 5 by Ejvj from Great service I bought a salt spreader about a month ago and it was fairly easy to put together. We had an issue where we didn't know if the auger or the agitator was better to use for the spreader when using calcium chloride. Their customer service was so nice and helpful. We love the build of the spreader and can't wait to use it this winter.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Langford from Quality is poor Bought this to spread salt, used it twice and now both tires are flat, I pumped up one but on the second the valve has gone back into the tire and can't be pulled out and can't be filled-so the unit is useless. I called to order a replacement tire but they want $29 plus shipping. For that money I will buy a cheaper spreader that will be more useful. I thought I'd spend more and get a better unit but I was wrong. Save your money and frustration look elsewhere.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Reis from Build quality decent but functionality poor I had very high hopes for this unit that was replacing a inexpensive seed caster that served me well for years spreading salt on my driveway. I decided rather then buy the “made in China” cheap replacement I’d spring a little buy this USA built quality one. Turns out that was a mistake.. first off, the instructions are not clear as to what bolts are for what and I had 5 extra bolts, and spring washer and a auger that were not even mentioned in the manual. That’s alright, simple enough.. figured it out and had it assembled quickly. Now for the true downfall of the unit... the rear bar that acts as a kick stand while not in use is nearly level with the wheels so any rearward tilt what so ever results in the rear bar dragging and stopping the unit from rolling. For this reason the unit isn’t practical for use.. unless you keep the tub completely level which simply isn’t natural during normal operation. I’ll be returning the unit. Truly unfortunate as I said I truly had such high hopes for this unit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JRRP from Easy to imagine better engineered version. Got it a few days ago after massine snow fall here in the northeast. The nut that holds the auger in place almost immediately came off and got lost somewhere on the ground. then, of course, the auger came off. So i replaced it with the metal bit. Guess what. That came off too. This is a sloppy engineering mistake. It's easy to build something that won't come apart in 48 hrs. I expected more from a device that cost north of a hundred bucks

Rated 1 out of 5 by tim6026 from Inferior product I purchased this unit recently with reasonable hopes. I found that the assembly instructions look nothing like the unit in the box. I also discovered that two pieces to link the bail handle to the gate were missing. At this point, the spreader is totally useless. I've used other Chapin equipment before and had reasonable expectations of a decent product. Very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by MTNMAN from Had high expectations I purchased this unit at my local building center [shop local] and on recommendation from the employee that this is a better unit than the others they carried, went home and awaited some inclement weather to try it out. Well, sadly the auger keeps loosening up and ends up rolling around in the bottom of the hopper and the bolts that hold the handle on loosen as well. Tightened handle bolts and reattached auger only to have them loosen again. And trying to get thru to customer service number listed in other reviews is almost impossible. Customer service can contact me thru email given with review! And BTW when you agree to the terms and conditions they reserve the right to change or delete any review as they see fit. [censorship]

Rated 1 out of 5 by Sad Chicago Guy from Looks great but works sub par I bought this to use instead of the $35 grass seed spreader with plastic tires. This has horrible installation instructions showing a different auger than on the package and doesn't clearly advise on weather to install the auger or agitator. Extra parts left over not mentioned and made this more confusing than it should be. Box advertised that unit was only requiring "attachment of handle and ready to go" this is clearly untrue. No rear cover so salt shoots backwards towards operators feet. I am going back to my $35 spreader this is a poorly designed design unfortunately and I would say do not purchase it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Just K from G Poor excuse for a spreader. Directions are incomplete and do not advise to the use of either the auger or agitator. Additional parts are included that do not have any directions as to location. Spreader does not have a rear baffle so salt is thrown back on operator's feet. Spreader clogs easily.
