Rated 3 out of 5 by from Replacement flap?? Cat door broken in half, can't afford a new door or cat door. Where can I find a replacement flap? A whole lot of cold air is getting into my house...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent for the price BUT.... Decent for the price and the cats have adjusted to it well. The following quirks annoy me though: 1) the door is not heavy enough to consistently return to the down position for the magnet to grab it, so the flap is open partially about 50% of the time from their tails preventing a full swing. 2) The lockout tabs work, but I've seen my cats pressing hard enough to try and get outside that I've given up on trying to use them – I know they will end up breaking the plastic (see all of the other reviews of people who have experienced broken flaps – and not available to buy a replacement!)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Serves its purpose I've gone through several of these over the past five-six years, all due to the flap being broken, with break starting at the lock. First off, the door does need a third lock on the bottom. I have six outdoor cats that all use this door to come in the garage. The problem, for me, isn't my or other CATS at all. The problem with this flap is raccoons, smelling the cat food in the garage or knowing its in there from nights it doesn't get locked, and getting their paws underneath the flap and pulling it to its breaking point. There's a huge difference in pressure applied between a cat and a 35 lb raccoon with tons of dexterity.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great door! I installed this door in my basement wall yesterday everything went perfect door works and looks good the only problem is when the cat goes through it snaps back into closed position on it’s tail which she didn’t like too much but overall a nice look and easy install!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wish I could rate lower than 1 star Just spent an hour trying to install as a replacement the original same brand broke. I was unable to use optional screw guides, as the whole had been cut too small. Working alone I found it impossible to align the screws while simultaneously holding the door in place. As soon as I got a screw in the middle insert would fall out. I consider this a terrible design, and recommend redesigning this item, a sentiment supported by the 2 star rating. Yes we are returning this item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great simple cat door This door has worked perfectly for us for 5 years. Relatively easy to install. Easy for cats This cat door was relatively simple to install, but did take some effort. It has worked perfectly for 5 years. It is easy for us and our two cats to use. Locking mechanism allow us to gradually acclimate them to outdoors. The seal to keep weather out has been perfect and long lasting. And PETSAFE still makes the exact same door now, so when the flap broke because of our error, it was very easy to replace the flap instead of cutting and drilling new holes for another product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from installation nightmare After carefully cutting the hole in my door it literally took 4 hands to install the unit. Had the engineers made a couple of the following installation would have been much easier. If they would have used steel screws so a magnetic screwdriver could've been used or used smaller holes to help hold the screws straight for alignment, or extended the screw hole pegs for alignment, made the hole plugs slightly larger so I did not have to glue them in and lastly made the door 5cm smaller to allow easier swing. I literally ground down the door edges for easier swing action. Overall poor engineering.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Need a replacement door This is a good door for cats. The locking function is good, but the our male cat always breaks the door if we allow it to lock him inside. There needs to be a heavy door and for sure a replacement door where you don't have to replace the entire product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Design I bought this door about a month ago from a box store and now have to replace it. When I was installing it in my mudroom door, the kit was missing the top and bottom plastic channel pieces. I contacted PetSafe and they sent me the repair kit. I finished installing it about a week ago and now the plastic door flap is broken where it locks. My cats kept pushing on it until they were able to push through the left side by snapping the plastic flap. I think if a lock was put on the bottom, this would have never happened. A replacement plastic flap does not come with the repair kit. I was told by customer support that this was not a defect. I disagree. It is an engineering defect. If you have a panel door, the kit does not come with a way to block the gap between the panel and the plastic frame.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This Door Has Hurt My Cats We installed this pet door about a month ago (maybe less). In that time, two different cats have had the door close on their claw/toes as they paw the door before they leave the room. In both instances I had to push open the door so the cats could get loose. I don't know if they could have done so if I was not at home.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Easily broken My cat broke the door. Cracked the plastic and popped the door out when it was locked one way. Now he knows he can force it open even tho it might be locked and the crack gets worse and worse every time he does. I don’t want to have to buy a whole new door just for this to keep happening. Should have read more reviews before I purchased this ☹️

Rated 1 out of 5 by from no spare parts I have this door on the front porch for probably ten years and have had to replace the entire thing three times now because the door breaks. THERE IS NO SPARE DOOR AVAILABLE. It's on the outside of the house and the plastic the door is made of doesn't weather well - it turns yellow and gets brittle after a year or two. The door should be an available spare part. I keep putting in the entire new assembly because the porch is cut out to fit this door. Otherwise I would buy a different product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Difficult! I'm not a tradesman, but have lots of experience in installing things like this. For some reason this was so much more difficult than I imagined it could ever be. It truly needs to be level, flush, and installed to a T to work. I wish I had stopped in the installation process and returned this to the store.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Smashing tails We bought this door a while ago for our cat who’s litter box is in the garage but she won’t go in and out very much, she just stays in the garage we thought she was just mad but it turned out that every time she walked through the door it would smash/ try to close on her tail, we are worried that she will eventually hurt her self badly

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Regrettable Regret buying this immensely. Cat flap stays open at all times. Only closes if pushed down from outside. Hard to replace with the size hole we had to cut in the door. Dont purchase.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Discontinuing the replacement flap was a bad idea I have a hole in my door. Now, because you discontinued the replacement flap, I will have to buy another pet door AND I will have to buy a new door for the humans to use. Note: if you buy one of these doors, you might as well buy the replacement parts too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from broken flap we have four cats the door broke at the tab that clips into the frame. there cats go in and out 20 times a day. I bought the door this spring and it is broken already. Can you just buy a new flap? If you can't I wouldn't recommend buy this dorr

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The door is defective I have purchased two of these doors. I am pleased with the versatility as it accommodates both my small dog and cat. However, I have had to purchase two kits to date because the door cracks and breaks. The first door I replaced because the flap door cracked and broke when the dog ran full on into it. The second one I purchased did the very same thing. I glued the door with super glue the second time but once again, it has broke. It really would not be hard to make the flap available. It is an easy fix to put the door back in once it comes out. Please listen to your customers and make the door available for purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cat use it I'm on my third door. ALL HAVE BROKEN FLAPS. I never used the lock on the one on our shed and I noticed it has a split in it. I used the locks on the one on our garage door and the door is split in two pieces. PET SAFE - NOT We keep our cat in at night but not using this door. A piece of wood and a bucket of sand works. PLEASE SEND ME TWO REPLACEMENT DOORS. Need to test one with three locks and beefing up the plastic to plexy glass. Cats are smarter than your engineers. Ha! Jay

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No replacement flap I think the door itself is good - not being able to buy a replacement flap is a big deal! Animals break things - u should be able to buy a new flap. So now I will have to buy a bigger one than I want to put in the door since the hole but only fits this one ! Always check to see if u can but replacement parts before buying a cat door - lesson learned

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What do you mean you can't buy a replacement flap? After as many customers have complained about the cheap plastic flaps why hasn't some engineer or other person paid much more realized that you may need to redesign said door flap my cats literally broke it out of the door with their paws. Reinforce the flap with metal around the door. I'd do a 1/2 inch ring around the edge of the door. Wouldn't have to be thick just there to stop the cheap plastic from flexing and cracking. Might make your customers happy that your trying to do something. So now I will go shop for a replacement for this pice of plastic junk that everyone has told you about and you refuse to change. I know petsafe is not going to be the preferred choice for my household ever again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Need cat door replacement! My cat hits this door so hard she has knocked it loose a hundred times, cracked it multiple times and finally a big piece of it is missing. This, of course, happened in November so now freezing cold air is coming in. I need a replacement door! I cannot believe that a product like this does not come with a replacement door when clearly these flaps do not last. You would make a ton of money because I would already have bought several! Going shopping for a new cat door to install. Not a happy camper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 8 years with no problems I had this installed 8 years ago when I bought my house so that my cats could use their litter boxes out in the garage. I've had absolutely no problems with it. It's been an absolutely great product!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Replacement flap would make it GR8! I have had several of these over the years. As wesleygg states, there is no viable reason why the manufacturer cannot provide/sell just the door flap, because YES the flap can be popped out (my cats have done it several times). I have had to pop the door back in, and it's not too terribly difficult. Unfortunately my present door flap is broken in two pieces (presently held together with duct tape) because my large cat was frightened while half-way out the door and tried to turn around and popped the door out! I duct-taped it and got it back in. Please listen to your customers and make the door flap available for purchase!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needed adjustment I bought this a month ago. It looks nice. However, when I installed it, the door didn't swing both ways because some edges were too tight. I had to use a file to taper the edges so it could swing as expected

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks Nice and has nice features but...... Appearance and lock system are cool. The Big Cat Door is NOT installation friendly. Not terrible if installing The Big Cat Door in a household door, I do not recommend use of the Big Cat Door for wall installation, Very difficult and Time consuming for Many reasons.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broken Flap Door Seriously??? We can not purchase a replacement flap door? It is not super easy to install and so we paid a handy man to install this door. The door cracked when our lab puppy tried to get in it. It has been working fine until last week one of our cats wanted to get out when it was locked and busted through it. I super glued it; unfortunately only lasted 2 days. I really just want a new door! I do not want to replace the whole unit!!!! Any suggestions??

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Door breaks This product is flawed. The door breaks easily and should be offered as a separate part so that the entire door does not have to be replaced. I will have replaced it 3 times in three years. Go with a different product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from flimsy door We have three cats and it didn't take them very long and the door was broken into two pieces right down the middle. What a shame. It stinks that this door is not replaceable. If it was only reinforced with a couple of strips of alum. . I would not recommend this door for this reason.
