The edging tool worked great for me.
Used the 8mm edging tool on a seam in my bathroom and it worked great. Now have a professional looking seam! Previously had tried using the "wet finger" technique. However use of this tool provides a more consistent seam and this seemed easier. Plus, since the caulking seam is now at 45 degree angle, it should be a better seam instead of the concave seam that results from the wet finger technique. Purchased at my local True Value hardware store, but it may be at other local hardware stores.

caps do NOT work
used the spreaders and they work fine but when I was done I tried to use the cap to save unused caulk and the cap is too small for the tip (I am using DAP brand caulk tubes)
