Great for backup power during hurricanes and other outages
We live in a rural area in south Georgia and lost power for 5 days during hurricane Idalia. A good friend loaned me his GP6500 once his power was restored and it saved us from loosing food in our refrigerator and freezer plus we were able to run our well and water heater. I was sold and purchased our own GP6500 the next week. He has owned his since before hurricane Irma and purchased it for the same reason.

A few quirks but overall happy with the product
Having an urgent need after a storm for replacing my generator ( that refused to start ), i went looking for a new one. The store had plenty of "off brands" or generic brands i was not comfortable with. I found a GP series 6500 tucked away under the rack. Knowing that Generac has made a reputation for home backup systems, i was willing to chance that they did some thinking before they put their portable generator to market. I liked the setup for the most part and it fired up with one pull (to my relief ). The Documentation was clear , giving plug requirements and a wonderful wiring diagram (thank you). Some things they could improve on is the adding of a Fuel Drain Valve, theft prevention security mounts, and supplying a cover with the unit.

dont waste your money
i have 12.2 hours on this junk. It stays in a climate controlled garage when not being used, i run ethanol free gas only and drain the gas out when its done. We lost power the other night so i went to start it, it wont start and all it does is leak gas out of the carburetor. For what this junk costs its unbelievable how cheap it is

At least the rope start is easy, the battery didn't last 3 months.
The GP8000E is a very capable machine. It can run our whole house and never falter. The electric start was a requirement so my wife could crank it up. There is the first weak spot. The machine is just 4 months old and has 3.2 hours on it and the start battery has cracked and is leaking. Yes, I recommend the unit, but I recommend that you plan to replace the starting battery very early.
The 20amp cord that comes with some is of marginal utility, I suggest that you look a 14-30 cord if you chose to do much at all.

Worked PERFECTLY, as expected!!
Last night was the "maiden voyage" of my new 8000 Watt generator, as we lost power from the explosion of a local transformer from heat related power overload. GENERAC to the rescue...it took all of 10 minutes to roll the generator out of the garage, hook up the power cable, start the machine, flip the transfer switch and back to the comfort of lights, TV and A/C, etc. While my old 3500 WATT generator performed well for the past 12 years, A/C was not an option, nor was using the microwave and other applicances. My new GENERAC machine performed flawlessly with gasoline consumption and noise both being reasonable. Bought it directly from GENERAC; the process and delivery were convenient and easy. I recommended this unit to my next door neighbor last night and he bought one this morning, and I would recommend GENERAC to everybody. Great product and great customer service (sales and delivery).

Very dissapointed
Brought my new GP8000E generator home, unboxed it, assembled it, prepped it for the first run and then started it and watched as gas ran out of the air cleaner box. The only way I could get it to stop was to siphon the gas out of the tank.
Apparently during the manufacturing of the unit someone mis-installed, mis-assembled or mis-welded the internal tank vent tube allowing gas to leak continuously from the tank. Serious safety hazard if I had not caught it.
I went and talked to my local Generac reseller service center and was told they are 1 to 1.5 months backlogged but go ahead and drop it off, and of course he had never run across this issue before.
Will I be buying another Generac product again…… NEVER. And for you wondering why I don’t give them a second chance…. this was their second chance. I had bought a smaller generator about 10 years ago for emergency use only. It only got started every 3 months and ran for an hour. I changed the oil and as it was draining out I saw aluminum particles coming out with the oil. So it only had a few hours on it but the engine had deteriorated internally and was past the warranty so it was junk.
