Good spreader, with one major problem
This is a good spreader, but the design has a major flaw. Even if the "Edgeguard" is fully retracted (i.e. "Off"), the green plastic support under the spreader STILL blocks seed spreading on that side. So you end up with two or three times as much seed on the left as you do on the right. It does NOT broadcast the seed evenly across a 5 foot path, as it claims to do.
When they designed this, didn't they put some grass seed in it and TRY it to see if it worked??? I'm very, very disappointed in Scotts, and this is a classic example of the decline in quality of American manufacturing. Now I'll have to get under the spreader and cut off some of the plastic parts to force it to work properly, and eventually buy another spreader - but it won't be a Scotts.

Makes a terrible noise!
This makes a terrible clicking noise when using. The broadcast wheel rubs against the edge guard and makes a terrible sound. It doesn’t matter if the edge guard is on or off the sound is terrible. Stay away from this model!

Replacement didn't last as long as the first one
So I had one of these for over 12 years before it finally kicked the bucket. Loved it and it was great. So I bought a replacement, the same exact kind. Used it once this year and just as I was about to use it for the fall, noticed that the agitator would not spin, the spreader would below the hopper but not that part in the bottom of the hopper. So if there was a glob of fertilizer it would block the shoot. It was kind of frustrating.

over rated.
I bought this spreader in the spring. A few days after spreading fertilizer I had beautiful deep green stripes in my lawn. Recently I spread fertilizer again, and had the same result, even after moving my passes closer to together. I do not recommend this spreader.

Cheap Quality
I bought this spreader to replace my old Scotts spreader, what a disappointment. This spreader has very poor quality. When you release the handle to close the hopper door, it does not close. I had to manually close it. I noticed couple of weeks after putting down my fertilizer that I had strips. Scotts claims it has a 5' broadcast, it does not. I would not recommend this product.

edge guard fell apart after 1 season of use
The thought of the edge guard was good but the mechanism was lousy. Wouldn't stay is chosen position and after one season the whole thing fell off and is useless.
Can't get it off to get rid of it either.

Very Poor Quality
The agitator broke the 3rd time I used the spreader after purchasing this spring. Disappointing that this very pricey product is of such poor quality.

Failure after failure after failure
I don't know why I keep buying these things (three). I keep them clean and maintained. Agitators always loosen and spin off. I replace two/year, I only use it 4x a year. All I'm using is granulated fertilizer or seed. I fill no more than a third of the bin. One has failed because the frame buckled. On 1/3 bins and dry fert/seed. Just finished applying fall fert. Took 3x longer than it should, stopping to fix agitator. I swear never again, but there's limited competition, so I guess Scoots doesn't need to bother improving design.
