The 100 lb Salt and Ice Melt Spreader has a large, 2 piece hopper design that boasts stainless steel handles and a rugged stainless steel frame, solid steel linkage for full gate control, patent-pending poly conical auger to help move salt with ease, 14 In. pneumatic tires for just about any terrain, front and side baffle system for precise control of spread pattern and enclosed metal gears to withstand the elements. Protective rain/snow cover included.

The best one we have used yet
This salt spreader is easy to use with simple handle mounted controls. because of the stainless steel parts it is easy to care for. at the end of the season I spray it off with clean warm water then let it air dry. Last year I was in a hurry and I didn't hose it off so I wound up taking it a part and cleaning it then put it together again and it worked like new. There are some room for improvements like packing a few extra parts for the gate control because the parts can fall off if you don't check them after each use. Wheel bearings that can be greased for ease of pushing it when fully loaded. An optional tire chain for the tires when you have to use it on an icy surface. The lack of those little extras wouldn't stop me from repurchasing this unit if I ever need to in the future.

Okay but not the best

The wheels are nice and large so it moves pretty easily over any kind of terrain and it is lifted high enough to spread kind of far. It does seem to concentrate more to one side rather than a nice even distribution.

Gets the job done!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is great and gets the job done. The adjustable flaps to control the spreader are nice. The grate that goes inside the hopper to keep the chunks of salt from clogging up the spreader is a nice added feature. The tires are great too in helping with getting through the snow. Not sure if this product can double as a seed/fertilizer spreader too...

Sturdy Machine
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The instructions to put this together was very hard to follow. It took my husband over 2 hours to put it together. Once put together it is a very sturdy machine. The wheels are good ones and large enough to go easily through thick snow. With the capacity of 100 pounds of salt there is no need to refill often for large areas. The grate inside the hopper helps so the salt doesn’t fall through all at once and the salt did not clog. There is an adjustment setting on the handle to set when you get the perfect distance that you need the salt to spread. This makes it so you do not waste salt by it spreading too far into areas that don’t need to be covered, as well as being able to spread it to cover larger areas if need be. Having the cover that comes with this is perfect for when using it while it is still snowing so that the salt does not get wet.

Chapin 100# Professional salt and ice spreader
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is one sturdy well built spreader. Nothing but top quality all the way around. The spread is very wide and covers an entire driveway with one pass which is what I like. Anyone with a large area to put ice melt on needs one of these and I highly recommend this Chapin.

Really nice
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We are extremely happy with this salt and ice melt spreader, with living in cold and snowy Minnesota, this will help us with keeping ice melting off our driveway and our sidewalks. The directions need to be better, they were very hard to follow and decipher, the pictures on the box seemed to help more than the instructions. Overall we love how wide this salt spreader is, we love that it hold 100 pounds of ice melt/salt. The cover that comes with it is also nice so that if we are using it while it is snowing the snow will not get the ice melt wet. It glides across the snow, sidewalks, and driveway with ease and little effort. The metal parts on this spreader are stainless steel so it should not rust out, which we are thankful for. We are expecting it to last many winters. We love that it has a sliding gate that stops the flow of salt when we want it to stop spreading out. We have not had any clogging, and hope that it stays that way for us.
