Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible I have been using Miracle Grow for over 20 years and purchased a expensive bag of potting soil for my plants when I opened the bag it wasn’t the rich black soil I was use to it was more like mulch and it produced a horrible fungus gnats problem which I have never ever had! I am never going to use this product ever again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Saved my garden Miracle Gro potting mix saved my garden this season. I bought a cheaper store brand potting soil that nearly ruined my broccoli and tomato plants. After replanting with Miracle Gro the plants are growing like crazy and look very healthy. I didn't give a 5 star rating because the overall quality of Miracle Gro potting soil is not quite as good as in previous years. But it still works!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dry hydrophobic peat. Wow, this product is absolute trash now (2023). Been buying miracle grow products for 20+ years, never again. The bags don't mention new formula but it is obvious when you open them up. Water pours right off of it, if you mix it up will soaks up like a sponge then dries out extremely fast in the sun.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from disappointed Soil turned awful don't look like has any nutrient

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor quality! No longer a Miracle Gro customer. Your explanations in the reviews can't change the fact that your potting soil has changed and is terrible. You can't fool us, we know the difference! I'm guessing you downgraded your product so you wouldn't have to raise the price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quality has Changed - No Longer an Option Wow. I don't know what is going on with your potting soil, but the quality is terrible: dry ,dusty, full of wood chips and other debris that is not wanted. It used to look like rich black soil - it has changed. Also - fungus gnats are now everywhere I have used it in my containers. I've used this product for literally a decade and will be looking at other options for the first time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Loyal no more Terrible and completely different than purchased before. Misleading to sell in similar bag as prior soil changing the wording to mix with completely different properties and no soil consistency whatsoever. I purchased multiple bags this year to do my annual flower pots and the product seems to be nothing but shredded paper. Seemingly no soil at all in the mix. The product doesn't absorb water and water rolls right off the top making watering quite a challenge. My plants are not doing as well as they normally do either which is very frustrating. All this and the price of the product is more expensive than last year! Very disappointed that a brand I had been loyal to for so many years has mislead me into wasting money and having a bad start to my usually satisfying gardening season. From the looks of the reviews I am seeing on here I am certainly not the only unhappy customer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointed I too have found Miracle Grow Potting Mix totally different this year. I don't like it at all. It looks more like mulch than soil. I only hope after using it my flowers grow. I purchased a 1 cu. ft. bag and used it all up hoping it was okay to use. I need more but will most likely change brands. I will be very upset if my plants die because of the formula change.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality For years I have used MiracleGro exclusively for my many containers and pots. (18 of the 2cu.ft. bags) I am so dissatisfied. This is no longer the quality product of the past. I will be researching for a different product next year!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Do yourself a favor and do a recall on this product before it turns into a class action lawsuit. Used this product for 30+ years and now it is horrible (just read the other reviews for the same problems I am having). Got some of the product on the top of my feet and they started to burn and itch. Had to wash them off and the shoes, better, but still itching. Product smells like fuel. Too many people have the same complaints for this to be a fluke. You need to explain to your loyal customers why it has changed i.e., manufactured somewhere new now? Company sold and someone at the top wants to cut corners to make more money? Where is your quality control department? They should have caught this junk before it ever went out the door. Sad, sad, sad...poor business practice.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What happened to Miracle Gro?! This used to be my go to potting soil but this brand has gone downhill FAST. It is so dry and has so much filler. I do not recommend.
Date published: 2023-05-23
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Potting mix not the same at all. Unhappy repeat cu I have used Miracle Grow potting mix for well over 20 years. This year I purchased approximately 20 bags to refresh my annual pots. I notice that it is different, not the same at all. It is very fibrous , like there is a lot of filler, it is lighter in color, and the is hardly any pearlite. It is just very different from the soil that I have ever purchased from Miracle Grow in the past. Why mess with a good thing? Why did the formula change? Next year I will look for different soil to use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the same as usual.. Disappointed!! I buy at least 15 bags of Miracle Grow spotting mix to redo my containers for flowers every spring. This year I notice that the soul is nothing like the potting mix in the past. It is not as dark and doesn’t contain pearlite as usual. Did the formula/mixture change? Why? Why mess with a great product?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Formula change in 2023? I have used Miracle-Gro potting soil for my home and business containers over 25 years. Something changed in 2023. The soil is super lightweight. Lots of ground up coir or husks. Very little vermiculite. There is no substance to the mix. Dries out very quickly. Extremely disappointed. You are charging a premium price for an inferior product in my opinion. Definitely will be using another brand next season.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not as good as years past I've bought this product for several years. Always loved it & recomended it to my friends This year it's awful. Reminds me of ground up trash from hurricane areas.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed What happened? I used your potting mix for 2 pots at a local business and now the plants are not growing and the mix dries out quickly. I must go water very often. Please go back to the original. I have used the original for many many years. It WAS my favorite and always produced the best results.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Potting mix. Not good! Purchased several bags of outdoor potting mix. Opened the bags and it appeared much different from last years product. Doesn't retain moisture and drys out quickly. I'm not a fan and after many years of successful use of your products i will now investigate other options.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed too! I, too, am disappointed with Miracle-Gro Potting Mix this year. Last year my plants were so beautiful. I thought I had purchased the wrong product. It is not soil like as it always was but more compost type. Hope all the money I put into my plants isn't wasted.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What have you done to your potting soil mix? Like many of the other reviewers, I found this year's purchase of Miracle Grow potting soil to be very confusing. It is not a rich dark earthy mix, but a very light cellulose like mix. After watering it formed clumps of fibrous balls and it seems to dry out very quickly. I suspect my plants are not going to do well this year.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not the same I just bought 2 bags of this potting soil. In the past it looked like super terrific dark topsoil with perlite and little beads of what I thought was plant food. Now it looks like shredded peat moss like stuff with a little perlite and NO fertilizer. Not happy. Im going to have to see what other manufacturers are offering.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the same I see from other reviews everyone is experiencing the same lack of quality in your potting mix. I have bought only this product for the last 30 years and this year is a completely different story. Very dried out with a lot of unwanted additives in the soil. Hopefully you can improve this mix for next year or I will be looking elsewhere for soil to pot my plants.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quality has gone way down in last two years We have bought nothing but Miracle-Gro for years and have been very pleased until last year and again this year (2022 & 2023). We normally buy six to eight bags each year. Last year and this year there are lots of sticks, some six to eight inches long, wood pieces that look like pieces off a 2x4. You reach in the bag with your hand and get splinters. We hate this change in what we considered to be a premium product. We are very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not the same Bought 2 of the 2cf bags. Had a small amount left from last year. Not the same mix. The new bags were extremely dry and had some sort of fiber and lots of peat in it. Extremely heavy when watered. Won't buy again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fungus gnats everywhere I repotted three house plants and now I have an infestation of fungus gnats. When sitting down to relax, they are flying around your face. They are in my cats water bowl and land on food while prepping in the kitchen. My cat spends his days chasing them. I have tried several indoor plant sprays and my fathers homemade bug spray recipe, but to no avail. They just keep multiplying. I worry their solution of sand will kill my houseplants. Frustrated that I will have to repot all my house plants, since they have spread to my other plants, and I have a lot of them. The water runs thru the soil . Without planning to, I have grown a batch of mushrooms in all the plants that I have repotted!!! Angry with excuses that they came from somewhere else in my home. I never had them before! I will never buy Miracle-Gro again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not like the miracle gro potting mix of the past! We have used MG potting mix every year for our hanging baskets and pots of herbs, no problems. The new bag we opened last week is awful! Dries out fast, forms clumps of peat on surface after watering. Not only did I waste money on the potting mix, I have to buy new soil, reseed my herbs and replant my flowers!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pine Sol? I just bought a new bag of potting soil and it totally smells like Pine Sol. I replanted two Boston Ferns and really concerned that this may ruin them. When I have time later in the week I will switch out these two plants and ditch the rest of this soil. Sorry to see a product I have used for years go down in quality.
Date published: 2023-05-07
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Is this a quality control problem? what happened to your product here? what has always been dark, loamy, organic and rich soil was nothing but a light, fluffy, fibrous material in the bags I recently bought. I feel like it's a quality control issue as I've never found anything like this in a bag of your soil in the past.
Date published: 2023-05-07
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Peat Moss As many others have mentioned, this product is basically pure peat moss and seemed to smell of eucalyptus for some reason. It's very dry and dusty and water is flowing right through it because the peat moss makes it hydrophobic. I even tried bottom watering hoping to rehydrate the potting mix and it won't even absorb the water. I'll need to repot everything I just planted today, with some proper potting mix. I've used this mix in the past and it was not like this at all. Very frustrating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor quality I have been buying Miracle Gro potting mix for years, and this is the first year that I am completely dissapointed. The product is different. I am having problems with gnats which I am trying to control with sticky traps, but as I am writing this the gnats are flying in my face. I understand that this is forest product, but I really don't like moss growing with my seedlings. I also have random plants and grass growing in the pots. I specifically wanted Miracle Gro because in the past the quality was excellent, but NO MORE. We have a very short growing season, so I started a lot of things indoors this year, but will not try this again with Miracle Gro.
