Misleading information
Having done research on this product online, I also phoned various companies that sell the product, and, in each case, I was told that the product fit all downspouts. I ordered the drain away from True Value and collected it at the Leesburg store.
The product packaging only gives the length of the Drain Away which extends 46”.
Online the measurements are stated as 46 x 8.5”
The actual Drain Away measurement is 46 x 8” and this is the outside measurement, which is irrelevant.
The inside dimension is 7.25”
Since I’m trying to fit a 3 x 5” downspout into this opening which has an inside dimension of 7.25” it doesn’t take a rocket scientist or a mathematician to work out that this will not fit.
Had the opening been 8.5”as stated online it would have worked.
I think it would be very helpful if the Chinese manufacturer put all the Interior and exterior dimensions of the product on the packaging. Also Frost King, (Thermwell Products Co. Inc.) as the distributor should check the accuracy of the dimensions, before they promote and sell the product to retailers.
I have cut and modified the end of one of the downspout, so it will fit in the 7.25” opening. I am waiting for the next rain storm to view the results.

Good and bad experience
I installed two of these. One, on a gutter with normal water volume, worked as advertised. The other, installed on a gutter servicing a very large roof area, could not keep up with water flow during storms, and was eventually blown off the leader.
One problem with both is that the small perforations which allow the water to drain get clogged by gunk from the gutters. Gently stepping on the swollen extension clears these out.
