Rated 2 out of 5 by from Color not true to sample chips in store We prepped our deck last week and, after some rainy days, finally started to stain this morning. The coverage is adequate, but the color is more like redwood than mission brown. Not sure what we'll be doing next, but this is not the color we chose; if we stay with it, we will be forced to restain all the framing of our adjacent screen room, which was definitely not in the plan. I'll be doing some research to see if staining over with the right color of semi-transparent stain will get us where we need to be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It was a winner for me!! Was pleased to have learned that semi-transparent does not chip as paint does. I specifically wanted an oil-based semi-transparent exterior stain so I was happy to have found this product. Small pump house (disguised as dog house because it's in front yard) of untreated Western Red Cedar lap siding painted with 2 coats of semi-transparent stain (driftwood gray color tint, plastic board trim, galvanized roof). Siding was aged 6 weeks under covered porch before painting all 6 sides of each board prior to installation. After 3 years it looks just as good as the day I painted it. I didn’t obtain the coverage anticipated but 1 side of the cedar was rough, which likely took a lot of the product to be able to cover. Product is meant to cover 400-500 sf/gallon. I had 110 linear feet of 1x8” (~139 sf if my calculations are correct) and had ~1/5 of gallon remaining. I plan on stripping the chipped peeling paint on my porch and using this identical semi-transparent stain on it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from coverage is good but too glossy Had our cedar sided home stained with the Cabot semi transparent stain. Happy with coverage but there are areas that are noticeably glossier than others. Very apparent in sun. Will it go away?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the Cabot stains I love the Cabot stains as it covers very well and gives me the look I want. My only complaint is when I want to re-stain after a couple of years I can't find the same color as before as they don't offer that color anymore.. That I am not a fan of but the stain works great! Apply 2 coats regardless of recommendations

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed July 2, 2017 my son stained my deck...looked beautiful. February 2018...at least 3 planks will need to me sanded and re-stained.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing results I purchased and applied this product 6 months ago and spent weeks prepping our existing decks prior to application. The stain was applied according to Cabot’s directions, but the end result is disappointing given the uneven look and flaking. Originally I had planned to go with another product, but was talked into this by the Rodda Paint rep.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dull streaky finish My deck was stained with the original oil-based formula in Granite 3-4 years ago. I had my deck prepped and sanded and reapplied a coat of the new 16306 modified oil-base formula (same color). It didn't completely cover, added a second coat and it shows brush marks, is streaky, and is a very flat dull grey. I have used Cabot stains with no problem for over 30 years. Not sure what is going on with this situation - maybe it is the new product formulation?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cabot Semi-Solid Color Match Issue Purchased 1 quart Seacoast Gray from Cabot's color chart to check color match with project....The color of the stain in the can was a light cream color but I figured it may darken when dried. Applied test coat, not even close to a gray tone....After reading reviews and issues with stains long term durability/maintenance, I think I'm headed for a solid color on this project.
