Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love how much power this saw has. Had a few cedar boards that needed demo-ing. Cut through them like butter. My only complaint is that it's pretty heavy

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Controlled power. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this as an upgrade to my previous reciprocating 20volt saw. I was very impressed with not just the power but it’s way more controlled power. The variable speed trigger is much better as well. It has this slow start when you immediately pull the trigger which definitely helps prevent that typical kickback you get sometimes when starting a cut. The only con I have about it is I noticed there is only one position to put the blade in. My previous old saw had a vertical and horizontal position for the blade. That I will miss as I loved that option. For that missing option I gave it 4 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding power and a great upgrade. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This review will be comparing the 60V DCS389 saw to an older 18V DC385 saw that I have had for years. For the purpose of my testing, I used the DCA1820 20V MAX to 18V adapter in the DC385. This is because I have replaced my failing 18V packs with the newer 20V packs. During the comparison, a new DWA4169 blade was used in each saw to eliminate blade differences. The positives: The DCS389 has an amazing power increase over the older DC385. This older saw is approaching 16-17 years of use and has been a good saw over the years, but the power is a fraction of the new DSC389, even when running on 20V. The DCS389 has power to spare when doing carpenter and demolition style cutting. In my comparison I used dimensional lumber and OSB sheeting to simulate the cutting one may normally do. I also embedded screws in the lumber to simulate cutting through what one may encounter in normal use of demolition. In my comparison, the DCS389 did not pull down when cutting like its older counterpart. The power of the 60V pack and the brushless motor really sets this saw apart from the older generations. The older DC385 would do the work, but at a much slower pace and without as clean a cut. The light is an interesting feature of the DCS389. While there have not been many times where I have needed the light in my uses, I can see having it could be beneficial in areas where there isn't as much light on projects. I do like the feature and am happy it was incorporated in this design. The DCS also is a smoother operating saw as well. This is due to upgrades in design and components but also due to the substantial weight increase over the DC385. The trigger and variable speed of the DCS389 is also far superior to my older DC385. The blade change chuck really has not changed all that much outside of the fact the DCS389 is spring loaded and locks itself while the DC385 needs to be pushed back to lock it. Both are very usable to me. The negative: The weight. The overall weight is the only downfall that I will honestly put on the saw but it could also be seen one of its most helpful features. As tested, the DCS389 tipped the scales at 10 pounds 14 ounces with a 9AH Flexvolt pack where as my older DC385 was only 6 pounds 9 ounces using the DCA1820 with a 4AH 20V pack. This is not a small difference and in fact, when I had my wife, who is not used to operating these saws, use both of these, she did not like the DCS389 due to the greater weight. She preferred the weight of the DC385. My son who is in high school and getting into the shop classes made the same observations about the weight but chose the DCS389 in the end in spite of the weight. Now I had mentioned that it while weight was a negative it was also a helpful feature. Because of the increased weight, the DCS389 exhibits less vibration to the user as you use it in our experience as a family. This would translate into an easier time controlling the saw and overall cleaner cuts from our experience. Having extra weight certainly helps stabilize the saw and keep it more comfortable to operate while cutting. I believe that the weight would be an issue for extended periods overhead work or if you did not have the forearm strength to handle the tool. For the reason of the arm strength, my wife would take the DC385 over the DCS389. I am overall, very impressed with the DCS389. The saw a solid saw and feels good in the hands. Despite the weight, it feels balanced and works well in different positions. The looks of the saw are sleek, modern, and eye catching in my opinion. My son also likes the overall look. The power difference of the saw when compared to a DC385 is remarkable. There is simply no comparison. The DCS389 is going to have the power to do whatever you would ask of it. The run time is good and will keep you working much longer than previous generations of these saws. I would recommend this saw for anyone looking to upgrade to a new powerhouse reciprocating saw in the Dewalt line but yet have a saw with operation that you are very familiar to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power with a punch!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] With the new 9AH battery this reciprocating saw has more than enough juice to get any job done. Great for demo work or even cutting small tree branches. Very smooth tool with very limited vibration that gets transferred to the user. Additionally the small LED is great for dark or portly lite areas. I know previous models have a fast changer but this 6AH is plenty considering they’ve up’d the battery from 6AH to 9AH. Would highly recommend to get any job done around the house or construction site!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tool! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this awesome Flexvolt Reciprocating Saw a few weeks ago and have had some great jobs to put it to work on. It has performed above and beyond my expectations. The battery life is incredible for this kind of saw, and it is much better than any I have had previously. The blades are very easy to install, and go on and off without any problems. The power is great for all types of material. I used it on metal, wood, and even some plastics and it cuts like butter! This is a great saw for a professional, and would make any owner proud to have in their tool kits! I would highly recommend getting this saw to all of my friends and coworkers, and you will not need any other after you see how great this one works!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Insane power in a battery operated unit [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Upon opening the box I saw the saw came in a beautiful heavy duty Dewalt carrying bag. The charger is compact sized and easily hung up in a shop or work trailer. The 40v battery has a meter on the front so you can see how much of a charge is left. The tool itself is heavy duty, has a rubberized finish in places, and has a quick connect feature for the blades. The only thing I didn’t like about the aesthetics of the tool is the guide is fixed, so if you’re using a longer blade you can’t adjust it to get more bite out of the blade on longer blades. The charger is super quiet compared to some other battery chargers I own. After charging the battery I attached the tool. The tool/battery combo is a little on the heavy side, but nothing that wasn’t manageable. I decided to go in my pasture and test it out on some chicken trees that have plagued my land for some time now. I can’t say enough good things about how much power this thing has. It tore through the branches of the chicken trees and even cut them down to stumps like they were paper. All in all I cut down about 30 small trees and trimmed a bunch of branches. How much battery did I use? About 1 bar (3 total) was all it used. The tool never struggled and just ate the trees like it was nothing. I switched out to a bi-metal blade and put it to the test again. It tore through 1/4inch angle Orrin like a hot knife through butter. The blades wore out before even using another bar of the battery. I have a corded sawzall that isn’t as powerful as this tool. Plus the added convenience of battery power. I definitely recommend this to anyone needing tons of power in a portable package.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from HEAVY DUTY!!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Well built product, I do like how solid it is. Cuts very fast through solid mild steel, it is VERY heavy though. I understand this model is made to rival a corded reciprocating sawnand it does just that,if weight is a factor for you look at Dewalt's other models. I am sure they make one that fits your particular needs perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long lasting power and powerful [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Received unit 2 weeks ago and it did not sit in its box for long. Unit is not to heavy to where it will fatigue you.Spring is here and nature needs to be trimmed! Saw did not disappoint. With the correct fresh blades it cut through anything I put in front of it, branches, T-posts, beams with nails, metallic conduits,2x4’s, 6x6’s, etc. After all work was done battery still had juice left in it and unit was barely getting “warmed” up. Not bad, not bad at all...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dewalt 60v reciprocating saw [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like this reciprocating saw. It’s on the heavier side but it cuts quick, very comfortable and it’s very well built has enough power to cut through just about anything. I would definitely recommend this dewalt saw to all my friends and family.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the best! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As an owner of an HVAC company it is important for me to have reliable tools in the hands of my technicians. I love the entire DEWALT flexvolt line. They are powerful and have the longevity required to finish a job. The DEWALT flexvolt reciprocating saw does not disappoint. It’s lightweight and powerful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A lot of power [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A lot of power cuts two by fours quick Disconnect for the blade is easy. I demoed a lot of things with this Sawall If you’re working from your chest down it works great if you’re doing overhead it’s a Really heavy. The other really good thing about the Sawall is the battery and it last a long time

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid build on the 60 volt [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Power tools have come along way. This tool offers the power of corded with the ease of batteries. This unit doesn’t feel flimsy in you hands like some other brands I have used. Great run time with the included battery. Quick and easy blade changes. The charger is a nice unit than you get with the 20v tool kits. I do miss the 36v blade holder as you could put a blade in sideways for the really odd cut. Overall a great tool, should last for years

Rated 5 out of 5 by from heavy duty, very powerful [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] great saw for demo and rough work. heavy but very powerful. as good as coreded. saw is more heavy than the corded but cordless is less cumbersome. tool free blade change. had a few issues charging the battery the first time but i reset the battery in the charger and it works great now. fuel gauge on the battery lets you know the charge level. variable speed trigger for control but this saw is for heavy use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sawzall with tons of power and durability! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This sawzall is heavier than 20 v max DeWalt sawzall I used before. But I found it more convenient for heavy and long cuts. You don’t need to push it down too much. It’s more stable easier to work with. The kit has everything you need to start work right from the box: contractor bag, 9 Amp battery, charger, blade and sawzall itself. Sawzall has toolless clump and light. For professional contractors only.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had this saw for about a year now and I love it. I have all battery tools because I hate dragging cords. Although the size slightly heavier than a corded saws all definitely definitely makes up for the convenience of not dragging a quarter round. If you’re doing heavy demo you’ll need a couple of batteries, but for medium to light use you’ll be good to go with one battery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This thing is a beast. The flexvolt 60 volt batteries make all the difference. I was looking for a recip saw that could be used on any material and I found it. I definitely recommend

Rated 4 out of 5 by from power of corded [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] this is a very powerful reciprocating saw. I have used many different reciprocating saws before, corded, cordless, many different sizes. this saw definitely got the power to cut through many types of material with ease. it is a little heavy, but then the weight can be a advantage when you use it to cut, as you don't have to push as harder. most of the time you just have to position the saw and let the tool do the work. its well constructed tool, seems like it can take a lot of abuse and won't break down easily.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Powerful! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This saw has tons of cutting power! It made more cuts than I could keep track of, didn’t matter if it was wood or steel. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because it is heavy. It is built very well and made with good features, can take abuse, and run all day! Good quality saw just heavier than I would like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A ton of power and long run time [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used this recip saw for a week now and very impressed with the power. It seriously does not bog down and just keeps asking for more punishment. It is heavier than my previous 20v recip saws but it’s not bad. Working over head with battery on, it can be heavy but the power makes to cut quickly with a good blade. One upside of the weight, when cutting vertically, the weight helps pull the saw through the cut without having to really push down on the saw. 2 things I really miss are: the adjustable shoe so you can move the shoe to cut on different parts of the blade. It gives you a lot longer use of a single blade. I really miss this feature. The second would be the place where the blade hooks on no longer has the 2 different spots for the blade to be vertical and horizontal. I use this feature a lot in tight areas and cutting base plates when framing walls. It was a great feature so you didn’t have to try cutting flush with the floor and using the tip to finish the cut. Which we all know slips out sometimes and then you end up bending or breaking the blade. I would like to see this blade attachment of horizontal and vertical brought back. It seems silly but those 2 features are worth their weight in gold sometimes. Overall, solid tool, massive power and run time. I am impressed and in demolition, it beat a corded recip saw I had hands down without the cord. If you have 60v tools already, this is a great addition and if you want to step into the 60v world, this is a great start. I recommend this saw highly and definitely worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power House. Like corded without the cord. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Power House. This tool has the power of a corded saw without the cord. It is a little on the heavy side but knowing the battery will last well and the saw will preform is enough to offset the weight drawback. Over all I am satisfied with the tools performance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great saw [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Received this just in time for a kitchen remodle. It is large and heavy, but that is to be expected. The power outways all that. Used it for some demo and thankfully had it for a large water pipe we had to reroute. The trigger is smooth and easy to use at interval speeds. Love Dewalt, great job on this recip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful and great battery [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great addition to my tool set, the 60V saw is truly powerful and when paired with the 9ah 60V battery has enough power to get the job done. Comparing to my old 120v corded saw it is at least as, if not more powerful, this is up to the job. Obviously run time is a concern for all cordless products and I found it was plenty for most jobs, of course you will probably want to have a spare battery on hand for those bigger jobs. The provided charger is the newer 6ah charger so faster than the standard charger but not quite as fast as the their high speed charger. As with all the 60v tools this is a heavier tool especially when you add the battery but not so much as it should impact you. Highly recommended

Rated 5 out of 5 by from POWER full. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've used my saw for cutting limbs in pine trees and removing one wall so far. The small blade is perfect in the trees where limbs are are close together and would be difficult to use a chain saw. The construction of the saw is professional and strong. It is easy to handle and well balanced. And the power is best described as KA-POW. A pleasant surprise for a battery saw. This saw is powerful and instant at the pull of the trigger. With no cord to worry about, maneuverability is excellent. Never ran out of power during the work and recharges fairly quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable powerful [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This saw is vey powerful. No issues cutting. It is on the heavy side. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong aggressive saw [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This saw a more than enough power to cut threw just about anything you want. I would use it more along the lines of a demo saw, as it’s pretty heavy for doing small stuff. I use a sawzall just about everyday for plumbing and this might be a little to heavy for that purpose. I’d recommend it if your cutting through heavy material or a lot of material with this saw and battery combo. Would definitely recommend this combo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beast of a saw! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This saw is in--wait for it--credible. I mean, holy moly what an animal. It'll chew through anything you throw at it without missing a beat. I've had to saw through solid aluminum, steel, hardened nails and I couldn't believe the power that this saw brings to the worksite. Not to mention the battery performance. The saw came with one bar charged on the battery and I swear it went a good 5 hours on that ONE BAR before I had to charge it. I would highly recommend this saw to anyone in demolition or heavy duty construction. It's precise and powerful and easily the best reciprocating saw I've ever used. The only con I would say is the weight. I'm quite a strong guy but if you're doing a lot of cutting above your head all day, every day, this may not be the model for you. Can't wait to tackle more projects with it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CORDED POWER [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This saw w/ the 9ah battery almost matches a corded sawzall. It's still lightweight enough to use overhead without getting tired immediately and blade changes take seconds and don't require you grabbing a hot blade for quick switches during use. You will get decent runtime and unless you're doing heavy framing or demo all day you probably won't have to switch the battery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent power [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've used the regular 20v Max DeWalt sawzall for years. When I compare the flexvolt 60v sawzall (with the 9a.h battery) to my 20v Max sawzall the flexvolt is such a higher standard. It's so much more powerful and even more aggressive. It cuts 3" black iron pipe without even slowing down. The 9a.h batter lasts longer and provides better better and it's the best addition to my DeWalt collection so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is a BEAST! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got this saw prior to starting a whole house demo / remodel and all I can say is wow! Extremely well built and heavy duty. Power is as good as an electric saw with excellent battery run time. The 60v battery can last for many hours of consistent use. Well worth the price. It’s a little heavy but should be expected with something that takes a beating all day.
