Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Finish Attributes I should have known, this product is not good. I started using a penetrating stain on red oak, let it dry for a few days then came back to put this on, what a mistake! The first layer, not sure what was going on but pulled the stain out of the wood and wouldn't dry. I lightly sanded 220 to knock any high spots off, then decided to charge forward and finish a second coat. I could tell, right away, it wasn't going to end up good. Alligatoring of the original coat, almost dilsolving it and making it run after 24 hours of dry time. This is the last time I use a Minwax product, they're terrible. Ruined my project, not I'm not sure what to do to rectify the finish. The wipe-on poly is the only finish worth a cent.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from easy to work with i built a bar top, Basically 2' x 8'. Looks great when looking down on it , but from the side it looks cloudy. Is there a reason for this ??

Rated 1 out of 5 by from bought a can of clear satin......... ended up with a can of semi gloss and now requiring me to strip one side of this interior door because it doesn't match the rest of my woodwork. Extremely frustrated with this one door with this product. After this door I will be switching products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beatiful Color & Finish Used the clear satin oil-based, 3 coats, to finish this new solid core front door. The color is Minwax English Chestnut, then finished with 3 coats of poly. No sanding between coats 1 and 2, then a light scuff sand with 400 grit between coats 2 and 3. Absolutely gorgeous!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Advantages and Disadvantages I've done quite a bit of varnishing in my life and this Minwax Fast Drying Polyurethane varnish has some advantages, but also some disadvantages. The advantage is that it dries very quickly and consequently there isn't a lot of time for dust to settle on the finished piece. It is wonderful for horizontal surfaces. Traditional varnishes have to be stirred very carefully to prevent air bubbles from becoming mixed into the varnish. Because this varnish is "thin", bubbles will not become entrapped in the can of varnish. Only by letting traditional varnish sit undisturbed in the can does the entrained air rise to the top and dissipate with time. The low viscosity of this varnish with respect to traditional varnishes, is however, also a disadvantage. This low viscosity makes it difficult to varnish vertical surfaces as it will easily run. I am using it to varnish the handrail of a set of stairs that is sitting on saw horses. In varnishing the top or bottom of the handrail, it is very easy for the varnish to run over the edges and cause drips. If I were varnishing a piece of furniture with carvings or an intricate profile, I fear that that profile or carvings could easily become "filled" with varnish as it flows into the lowest part. I would therefore avoid using this product on such a piece. Lest the reader think that perhaps I have too much varnish on my brush, even by dipping the brush in the varnish by only 1/16 of an inch, enough varnish is on the brush that it can easily cause drips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good to go I have always had good luck with Minwax stains and poly. The fast drying poly is real good for small parts that need to dry fast so you don't have to wait to long before you can do the other side. Things like towel racks and tp holders. It cost a little bit more but it is worth it

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Turns yellow I used minwax CLEAR polyurethane to seal my kitchen cabinets that I had just redone in a white. With in 1 week my cabinets are now streaked with yellow tint from this product. I now have to resend and redo my entire kitchen over. 2 months of work wasted plus the money I will have to spend to repaint. It also left the cabinets tacky this causing the paint to peal where doors close and open. I will never use your product again!
