Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disaster! Avoid at all costs! For the love of everything you hold dear do not buy this! I restained my kitchen cabinets and it was a complete disaster. I followed the instructions but it was impossible to get even coats even with a high quality natural brush. One week of staining, multiple mental break downs and I'm left with uneven spotty cabinets. Never ever again!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed I used one time on a small project. Sealed can tightly 2 weeks later opened to use and there's a big chunk of something in there that stirring will not dissolve. I've used product before with no issues very disappointed especially with the price

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, useful product. I've used this product in various shades over the years and found it useful, especially when going over a previously finished piece. It seems to be easier to apply to horizontal work in that the solids are more controllable to uniformly spread out. I've used it on vertical wood trim, but it sometimes takes a bit of work to spread out the solids. to prevent streaking. Because you apply it in the direction of the grain, it's not that noticeable, but I know it's there. All-in-all, I like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to apply Bathroom cabinet update. I hated the bland medium brown oak cabinets that are in every house in AZ. Applied the Ebony for a cassy finish! Those who had problems tried to rub on the poly shade. That is only for stain only. Poly is polyurethane, so brush on evenly and let it settle for a nice finish. Two coats!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product is a nightmare! I saw this product and it sounded like the perfect stain...I sanded the table top down to the wood cleaned it and put the first coat on and everything seemed fine. I let it dry overnight. In the morning I used fine steelwool and went over it then I used a tack rag and wiped it off. So far so good...I began to put the second coat on and the stain seemed thicker then the day before. I was using the same kind of brush I used the day before but it was going on heavier and it was harder to get the same consistency and not leave brush strokes. I started to panic and I could see this was not going to turn out the way it was supposed to.I have stained many items of furniture and I have never had this happen before. It literally over night had changed its texture and thickness. I am looking at this table which by the way was the first piece of furniture I had purchased and that was 50 years ago, and I am going to have to start all over in order to fix this.... The worst experience I have ever had with a stain. I will never buy this again and after reading some other reviews I wish I had read them before I tried this. I have used Minwax stains over the years and never had a problem before. If I could leave no stars I would.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disaster I've seen this product out there for years, there is often nothing else to buy. I got it to match some area of floor but then read it's not for use with floors. I have a rack which I needed to finish, didn't care about the color., so I thought I'd use it. I normally use Minwax clear polyurethane. This stuff is very hard to use as every drip and brush stroke shows up very dark whereas thin areas are light. . You can't wipe it off, you have to keep brushing. Plus often you think you're ok, then look back 5-10 minutes later and there are pools and drips forming. This happens with clear but is not noticeable. With Polyshades, it looks like the target in a tobacco spitting contest. The thin coats they recommend looked very blotchy.. I was using this on an assembled piece so there were vertical surfaces and undersides. These were all disasters. If I had to used this product again, with someone holding a gun to my head, I'd try to apply it to unassembled pieces and let then lay flat. And do one surface at a time. Six sides, My only remedy now is to apply more coats to cover it up. I'm slathering it on like paint, it looks terrible but is getting darker, and looks like a cross between a Cub Scout project and Catholic school furniture. My 15 minute varnish application is now at 3 hours, and using half a quart instead of half a cup, but I don't care anymore because I've inhaled so much of the fumes. Maybe after 3 months of drying time I'll look back at this rack and laugh.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Embarassingly bad product. Minwax Polyshades ruins everything it touches including the brush. It's simultaneously so sticky yet so runny that it's guaranteed to produce an uneven, runny, blotchy, saggy, gloppy, drippy hideous mess that can only be fixed by sanding down to bare wood. I'm done with Minwax and Sherwin-Williams, they've ruined too much of my work to ever trust them again.
