Rated 4 out of 5 by from Owner I take trees down for a living. I got the top handle saw to use when I am up in a lift. The saw worked just as good as a gas saw. But being a first gen saw I did find some things I did not like with it. one they used a tool safety on the saw. now that is fine if you are just chting up and down but i am working in diferent angiles that makes it very hard to hold the safety and run the saw. Gas chain saws use a palm safety witch has worked for years. To me this should have bin thought out better and this also gose for the 60V and the 40V chain saws useing the same safety off of the cordless circular saws and then add a stronger spring in to the safety. To me that is not think of the end user. the other problem is when you get a new saw and this is A WARNING. They don't oil the quick open oil cap. I thought I was going to brake it because it was that hard to try to open. all that need to be done is put a little oil on the O-ring under the cap or leave the cap lose. Very simple

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressed with the Performance I purchased the XR Compact 12" Cordless Chainsaw for around the house and trimming some thick tree limbs. The chainsaw performed flawlessly, it is very light, easy to use and will cut through 10" think wood as stated in the owners manual. I used it with with 3Ah & 5Ah batteries. Highly recommend [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Love Love this chainsaw! Bought this because it is battery powered instead of gas and quite a bit lighter than the gas units. Have been having fun with my "baby" chainsaw but have one problem. A cover on the under side of the unit has come off and I cant find it. Not of the parts sites show the bottom of the saw so I can't identify a part number to replace. Can anyone help!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far it exceeds my expectations After years of suffering thru the Ni-cad battery tool torture, I've been converting over to Dewalt 20 volt lithium tools, and have been impressed with all of them. In need of a small occasional use chain saw, I decided on the Dewalt battery powered saw figuring it would be less troublesome than a gas powered one like I used to have, especially for just occasional use. So far this saw has far exceeded my expectations for ease of use, speed of cutting, and the amount of wood that can be cut on just one battery charge, plus the price was most reasonable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awsome Bought this today, I was getting tired of pulling gas saws, This is one of the best additions I have added to my Dewalt family, This little saw cut through 10" with out blinking, I cut for a hour on a 5amp battery, 1 hand no problem, I am getting another on next week just beacuse, Buy it you will love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent little saw for light duty cutting. I bought this as a companion to my 20 inch gas saw for smaller jobs. It is also great for jobs where noise might be an issue, or jobs that required a lighter more manageable saw. Very happy with the saw's performance. You will definitely want to use your largest capacity battery with it. I get about an hour of frequent cutting out of the 4.0 AH batteries. However my 2.0 AH only get about 15-20 minutes. This saw has also replaced my gasser as the saw that lives in the back of my truck. It's smaller size and lack of gas makes it great for emergency cuts on the backroads when trying to get home after a storm. The oil cap was screwed on very tightly from the factory, as some reported, but if you put the tiniest amount of elbow grease into your effort it unscrews easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it Was skeptical of a battery powered chainsaw, but was talked into it by a Dewalt salesman who had one himself. Could not be happier. I bought it because I wanted something smaller and lighter than my 20'' Stihl for doing smaller 4''-8'' stuff. It's perfect for that. No earmuffs, no starting, no fumes, no oil&gas. I've hardly used my big one this winter. I have (2) of the bigger batteries ( I think they are 4 amp?) and (2) of the littler ones. I can drop, limb and buck about (3) 8'' basswoods on 1 big battery and can do about (1) 8'' ash on a big battery. I see some complaints about the oil cap and yes, when it was new it was very tight and i thought I was going to break it trying to get it off. I didn't and once it was oily I have no issue with it.
