Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made Me a Young Man Again! in 1975 I bought a model 77. There was only one version of the 77 then and it weighed 17 pounds. I used it for decades, building up my forearms with the exercise that came with daily home building. An indestructible and accurate saw. Now at 66 years old, retired and a busy DIYer, 17 pounds is too much weight. I bought one of these as a replacement. Every time I use it I get a big smile on my face. Makes me feel young again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very light weight, easy adjustments Been using the HD 77 for a long time, just bought the Mag 77. What a difference. Great deck, easy to use degree gauge for bevel adjustments. As light as my co workers DeWalt circular saw, the argument that a worm drive is too heavy doesn't hold up any longer. Great saw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weigh and cuts effortlessly Light weight makes difficult and over head cuts much easier. Also less problems with blade guard jamming up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far I like the saw. I have owned many of skill products over the years including other saws so that why I bought another one when my old one wore out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Weight Is Great But Other Features So So Weight is great but Skil still hasn't fixed their blade guard and the skyhook is unreliable/too small compared to DeWalt which I switched to ten years ago and came back for this. DW also has better miter markings and depth settings on housing. So the Skil is way lighter than the DW on the roof but has already fallen off and bent the shoe. Color me irritated. This would be a great saw if Skil would follow through on the rest of it. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Magnesium equals lighter, I'm a fan! I’ve used worm drive saws before, so opening the box to the 7 ¼” Lightweight Magnesium Worm Drive, upon first inspection didn’t see anything spectacular. When I lifted it out of the box I could tell it was built lighter than my Makita. The Diablo 24-tooth saw blade came with the saw but needed to be installed, no big deal, the wrench for the Skilsaw was conveniently located at the rear of the frame. Skil seems to store many of their wrenches intuitively in their saws which makes it easier to locate as opposed to the 43 other handtools I have and need to search for the proper wrench. The saw was full of oil as the manual indicated and I was ready to get to work. I was re-building my deck when I received this (actually tearing the old one down and re-building it) so I was ready to put this saw to the test. I cut out the old deck and went to framing and sawing, noticing the power of this saw and the torque when it fires up. It is about 3.5 pounds lighter than my other saw, well-built solid and even has a tool hanging attachment. For the next two weeks, I did everything with this saw including cutting 7 stringers, framing joists, and even occasionally cutting Trex Composite Decking. A very durable and reliable saw when cutting bevels and even handling single handed, when necessary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use I bought this saw to replace my model 77 bought in 1969. The weight difference was noticeable right away. The power was great while cutting 2x material and bottoms of doors. After checking the oil and the blade at 90o and 45o my saw was ready to go right out of the box. Still have the old one for cutting cement.
