Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for the serious hiker So, here we are again, a bad review submitted a week ago and still no response and now our 4th set of Diamond Grips in 2 years have broken at the heel (see photo). The Diamond Grip YakTrax suffer from a serious design flaw in that where the cable is protected from the chains by a plastic doodad and that doodad breaks or is worn away with use, thus exposing the cable and causing the cable to break. Again, 4 sets in 2 years. DO NOT BUY THESE. They are poorly designed and if you are even remotely a serious winter hiker get something else. A Flawed product, for sure.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for the serious winter hiker In the last two years, my wife and I have collectively gone through 3 pairs of the DiamondGrip YakTrax. I am on my second pair and so far they are holding up but my wife is on her second pair and they are now without anything on the heel. All of them have failed at the heel because the cable holding all the gripper thingys comes apart due to whatever is clamping the cable together breaking or coming off. All three of the pairs we have gone through have failed at this same point. The "clamp" breaks and cable and gripper thingys no longer stay on. We will no longer be buying this model and will definitely look more closely at how any future "trax" style products are constructed before we buy them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great traction I bought these before heading down Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon where I encountered miles of snow, ice, and mud over two days. Wearing these, I never felt unsafe taking a step, even at a fast pace going up and down the trail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life savers I have been using these for several years. They are phenomenal!! On our small ranch in Montana, the snow cover often turns into solid ice. These have saved both my wife and I from catastrophic falls out in the dark and Sub-Zero taking care of our livestock. They provide SOLID traction, don't slip around on our Arctic pacs and are STABLE. In the 6 years+ that we've been using them, we've never had one come off our boots. In my work as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff, I've worn them out on accident scenes on the highway where it was solid black ice. Again, they deliver SOLID grip and are stable under foot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great on ice! I've had my Diamond Grips for 7 years, and wear them sometimes daily in the winter on icy surfaces. They've held up great, and give me MUCH more traction than my husband gets with his chain style 'grippers'. I do make sure I take them off once I hit non-icy pavement. The rubber shows no sign of becoming brittle.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Excellent performance; questionable durability I bought these 11 months ago and they worked perfectly; I can walk normally on "Zamboni-prepared" ice. However, today the right heel cable broke and, on inspection, the rest of the cables were frayed, rusty and ready to give. For what I paid, I would expect these to last a lot longer. I also suspect that the cables would have broken sooner than expected even if they hadn't rusted.
