Lots of potential
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Haven't had this very long so haven't tried different recipes I would like to. I tried rice (I use basmati rice) and it turned out OK same as stove top. On the plus side I didn't have to worry about it cooking too long like on the stove if I didn't hear timer and didn't get the burner shut off as the rice cooker will switch to "warm". I only cooked one Rice Measuring Cup for two people. Oatmeal came out fine - I like it better then on the stove or the microwave.
I won't be putting the "cooking pot" in the dishwasher - it looks like it is aluminum and aluminum changes color - oxidizes with dishwasher detergent (oxidation can be removed using "Brillo" pads but that's a hassle). This is a handicap for easy cleaning when you have to do a part by hand. The pictured care and cleaning directions are awful - no 2 shows pulling the condenser collector but I can not get it to come off. Finally went to other reviews and someone mentioned the hing so I looked on the back and there it was! Doesn't look anything like the picture in the manual. It is not easy to take off - poor design. Plus others have reviewed it has broken and there is no replacement part (!!) for it. Seems to me Hamilton beach should have replacement for a part that breaks with normal use. It was shipped to me in the rice cooker box - no outer cardboard box. The Styrofoam was broken so I was worried it would not work. Fortunately there were no dings to the unit. All said I am looking forward to trying other foods in the rice cooker. Especially steamed foods. I can think of quite a few I want to do - spinach, shrimp etc.

Healthy Eating for family on the go!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This has helped us get to eating healthy! I throw in the rice, you can use Broth instead of water giving a great flavor for a change. Steaming vegetables taste so much better then boiled! Bar-B-Q your meat and you got a meal. And since their is only 3 of us, we have enough for lunch the next day. And clean up is fast and easy!

Perfect rice plus so much more
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Hamilton Beach Digital Simplicity Rice Cooker and Steamer rocks! I love this thing! It is so easy to use. This is my first rice cooker and I couldn't be happier with it. It comes with everything you need, except the rice of course. This rice cooker has it's own measuring cup. If I use 3 of these cups or scoops of rice, then I fill up with water to the 3 line in the cooker bowl. If I need to rinse the rice first, a rise bowl(doubles as a steamer basket) is also included. Plug this thing in, turn it on, select the cooking method and that's it! I was a little skeptical at first but soon I had fluffy perfectly cook rice! When the cooking cycle is done it will automatically switch over to "warm". The delay start option is super convenient. I can set it up to 15 hours in advance. It's great to be able to come home from work for lunch or the end of the day and have the rice hot and ready for me. I can also cook breakfast grains in it. So I can set it at night and when I get up steal cut oats or grits are ready. The steamer basket lets me steam veggies and other food in the cooker. I make potsticker dumplings in it several times a week now. Bean, chili, soups, boxed rice or noodle mixes, cous cous, etc. can all be made in this thing. It works great for me and it's easy to clean. The nonstick aluminum bowl comes out and can go in the dishwasher along with the scoop, rice paddle and lid insert.

Nice, useful addition to my kitchen appliances.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Unlike my microwave rice cooker, this cooker doesn't overflow. It's easy to use and cleanup is easy. Have only tried it with rice. Looking forward to trying it with other grains and, when the weather cools, cooking oatmeal.

Great cooker.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's really a nice option to cook rice easily. We cook rice almost every day and it works great and as I expected. I followed the instructions from manual, it works as described there. Very easy to use and very easy to clean as well. Quality of non-stick cooking pot and steamer basket is also nice. Overall excellent for me and I'll continue using it, happy to have it.

My First Rice Cooker
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I initially received my rice cooker I thought this was going to be one of those rarely used small kitchen appliances taking up shelf-space.
I am one of those cooks who I’ll admit bought the microwave bags of rice, but I have found it extremely useful for cooking grits, oatmeal, beans, soup/chili, steaming vegetables, fruits and tamales, and of course making wild rice on a few occasions.

A little more that you're basic rice cooker
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is a little nicer than I first expected. The settings for the different types of rice are a little more robust than most models. The time cook feature is a great addition for those quick rice or noodle packages, as well. The steamer basket is more thoughtfully considered than most rice cookers in that you can also user is as a colander for rinsing your rice or other food before cooking.
I gave it a slightly lower rating because of some things I would do differently in the design – mostly a slightly longer power cord, and either making it detachable or self-storing for easier shelf storage of the unit while not in use.

Not too bulky, convenient
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like the convenience of putting the ingredients in the cooker and then leaving it to do its thing. I did find the measuring cup for the rice a little hard to read. The rice on the bottom seemed a little more crunchy but still tasted great.Overall a nice product to have if you make rice often. Can also be used for steaming foods as well.
