Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great in theory, worthless in practice I received one of these for Christmas. I used it twice in a Coleman lantern, then put it away for the winter. Next spring, went to recharge it and the light was green instantly, which was my first clue that something was wrong. Alas, it wouldn't power either of my lamps that take the CPX-6 battery packs, even though the D cell battery packs still work just fine. I hate buying batteries, but now it's my only option, as I'm not shelling out money for another one of these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rubbish - want hold a charge My second Coleman CPX 6 battery pack has died... First one I charged every 3-5months and it was dead within 14months - No warranty! Bought another one so we could have a light while camping. The lady at the camping store said to charge it monthly and it should be fine - so I did, and I got it to last almost 2 years but its failed again. These packs are junk, don't waste your money!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Inherent Design Issue - Uses SLA Battery I'm an Eectronics Engineer and would like to shed some 'light' on the problems you can experience with the CPX-6 Rechargeable Power Cartridge. I have owned two of these in the last few years and both have failed within a year. I use the cartridge in conjunction with a CPX® 6 Duo® 180L LED Lantern. Obviously, to keep the Lantern in an 'always ready' condition I leave the Cartridge installed in the Lantern. The Lantern uses 3 x AAA NiMH cells in each of the two lamp attachments. These cells self-discharge over time (even with the lamps off), so the cartridge is called upon from time to time to keep them topped up. I'm not sure how this is managed, but the bottom line is this discharges the cartridge over time. So the cartridge must be regularly charged to keep it in a fully charged state. But, as we all know, people forget to charge things untiul the last day or so before a camping trip. And how do you work out how often to do this if the lamp is basically on 'stand-by'? This is where the problem arises. Because the cartridge uses an SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) battery (I've taken one apart), if it is not kept charged at all times, the battery can fail due to being left discharged for long periods. Long periods here means a week or two. If you leave an SLA battery dischared for this long, it will deteriorate to the point where it will no longer charge. A common problem with Lead Acid batteries of any type. The symptom with the cartridge is that the green light comes on almost immediately power is applied and the battery will not accept charge. To be fair to Coleman, they do say you need to charge it as soon after use as possible. But once again, how do you work out how often in my scenario? The other issue arises when buying a replacement. SLA batteries also self discharge over time, even when sitting on the retailers' shelf. So if you buy a replacemnet Power Cartridge that has been on the retailers' shelf for six months or more, the SLA battery could be dead when you get it. There should be a date code on the retail box and on the power cartridge so that you know not to accept it if it is 6 months or more old. This would save you buying it, taking it home to find it is faulty and then having to return it for a refund when it dosesn't work as expected. Or worse, being accused that you didn't use it right. Finally, the last issue I have experienced is the untimely failure of the NiMH AAA cells in the lamps themselves. The worst thing is that one failed in one lamp and two failed in the second lamp. So the lamps did not run for very long. I have since replaced the NiMH cells with high quality branded cells. Properly treated, NiMH cells should last for a decade or more.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery life is very short, beware! The rechargeable battery dies quickly within less than a year. Save your money and go buy 4 rechargeable D batteries, they will last much longer and be cheaper in the long run.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from CPX6 Battery What a waste of money. After 2 -3 charges the battery has failed. This is my second one. And last

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery doesn't last It worked well in the beginning. After the camping season was over, I stored the battery. After a power outage, I tried using the battery in a lantern, but the battery was dead. Plugging in the to charge didn't help. The light went immediately to green, however it wouldn't retain the charge. Junk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rechargeable battery worked once. Then never again. Output is very low. Recharging does not help. You would think a reputable company would engineer a useful replacement. Stock up on D-cells.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed to hold a charge As written by others. Get green light but no charge on the battery. Fail after second use. If battery pack was reliable it woyld make for a five star rating. Instead i feel like coleman ripped me off
