Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice finish! I painted a guitar body with a custom color acrylic paint that I purchased at the local automotive store. I used a gloss finish, but purposely applied a final thin coat that left a very fine textured finish. I let this dry for 6 days, basically because I'm a weekend DIY'er, but I always allow ample drying time (1 week or more) prior to applying my clear coats. I used the Krylon CoverMaxx clear gloss for my clear coat and got excellent results. I did get some runs on the sides, but I did not start with a tack coat, and applied the clear coat very generously. I was able to sand down the runs with 400 grit, then 1000 grit, and a final sanding with 1200 grit. I wiped down the surfaces and re-applied some more of the clear coat, and it turned out beautiful. I can't speak to cloudy or discolored coats, as I did not experience those at all. I probably would have saved myself some work if I would have properly applied an initial tack coat, then multiple thin coats and a final med/heavy coat. I had good results with the Krylon CoverMaxx and will definitely use it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works perfectly, following instructions must be too difficult for other reviewers Used matte black Krylon Maxx to protect an aluminum rifle chassis. After shaking the can for 2 mins I sprayed 6 coats at 1-2 min intervals. I then waited 1 hour (PER THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE LABEL) and sprayed 3 coats of matte clear Krylon Maxx at 1-2 min intervals. Perfect finish as expected from a company that is known for their R&D.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Save your time and money and use something different. I used this product on a small, flat surface and it was fine. When attempting to use it on a larger project with vertical surfaces (a guitar body) that needed to be hung to dry the results were horrendous. I'm not a novice, I work on guitar projects weekly. I've clear coated dozens of them. I follow the directions, I use a timer when shaking the can because these things all effect finish quality and durability. This product runs, comes out of the can inconsistently. I will not use again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Clear Coat I Have Ever Used If you want to make your otherwise decent paint job look like you slopped on some shoe polish with a hot mop, then this is the stuff for you! Absolute garbage, uneven coverage, wrinkles even on unpainted wood (I tried it on a sample) ruined a project and 2 days (1 for painting, 1 for sanding and scraping it all back off)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Uneven spray left glossy and matte pattern all over work project My wife used this product to waterproof a sign that she made for work, and it made a mess of it. Now there are glossy spray patterns all over the sign. This is supposed to be satin. Terrible product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ruined the paint job I was painting metal parts with color place gloss black and the Maxx Sun Yellow. Had a beautiful paint job done and all that was left to do was clear coat. I applied this product 24 hours after applying several coats of black and yellow.....the second the clear coat touch the SAME BRAND yellow, it immediately started cracking and essentially melted. I now have to do the whole job over thanks to this wonderful product. The fact that two maxx paints instantly reacted to each other is ridiculous. The cheap black held up fine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Crystal clear "gloss"? Not even close. I specifically bought the CoverMaxx Crystal Clear GLOSS (not matte nor satin) so I would get a nice clear, shiny finish for the craft project I was working on and painting. I spent hours making and painting my project, only to completely ruin it with this product. It's milky, greyish, and absolutely not glossy. Satin, *at best*. I've completely lost the subtle shading from my paint job. I am at a complete loss for what to do now. I might try buffing it with some floor wax or something. I have to salvage this wrecked project somehow.
