Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Motors The plastic fuel shut off knob on our brand new Compact 24 broke off with a bit of the metal shaft embedded inside the knob. The local dealer we purchased it from believed the knob was forced, which is possible as I loaned it to my 72-year-old neighbor, who claimed he did not force it but may have by mistake. I was honest about this with the dealer, who refused to do a warranty repair claiming user error and replaced both the knob and fuel shut off valve at my expense. Ariens refuses to warranty this as well. Please be aware that these knobs and valves appear flimsy and are easily damaged. The engine is an LTC Chinese made product and is very noisy and vibrates excessively as well and appears to be a cost cutting measure by Ariens. The rest of the unit appears to be well made and durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact 24, excellent machine!! I have had this Compact 24 for five years, bought from LIFFCO in Williston Park, LI, NY. Excellent Ariens dealer!! Very manueverable, powerful for its class, but could be more powerful with a larger engine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Buy, Big Upset, Doesn't Live Up to Expectations Bought the Ariens 24 because the Toro I had for 15yrs broke down last year and had to borrow my neighbors Ariens snowblower. This year I figured I'd go out and buy an Ariens, since it had helped me out before and seemed to be a very good machine just from my short period of using it a year ago. So I bought the Ariens 24 and was excited for the snow. This past weekend, we had a big snow storm here in NJ, and I was finally able to use my new Ariens. It started up fine and was doing great when doing flat side walks and my neighbors flat driveway. I started doing the apron of my neighbors driveway, there was a large pile of snow there so I decided to drop it down to the 1st forward gear. After I put it in 1st and pulled the throttle, it started going in reverse. Then I kept having to put it in higher gears. But every time I put it in the 1st forward gear, it would go backwards. Then, once I began doing my own driveway(which has an incline at the entrance), it would lose traction. As I was standing the street, trying to do the apron, it would get completely stuck. No matter what gear it was in. I had to push with all the force I could in order for it to barely move an inch in snow that was only about 4-5 inches. The entire time, the left wheel would be spinning like crazy and right wheel would be barely moving. This then caused the machine to pull left the whole time and go in circles. As the snow got worse, it became even worse to use my Ariens 24. This caused me to actually lose money because I was being paid to clear many houses and with the awful experience of using my new Ariens 24 for the first time for about 45 minutes, I knew I wouldn't be able to do any other houses properly. I have literally owned this snowblower for under 2 and a half months, and only used it once! I'm no rich guy and I spent a lot of money on this trusting it was a good product and I was extremely disappointed with the quality, design, and performance of this snowblower.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth it. Well, I'm on my second season with the Ariens 24 compact model. It went through a lot of snow the first season. This season it's already doing more than I expected. We rented a house last year and decided to buy a small snowblower. Well, this year we bought a house and I'm wishing we would have got a larger snowblower. However, this compact model is still tough even though it doesn't particularly like slush but our neighbor's Kubota 4wd tractor didn't prefer it either so... all in all a great machine. I'm blowing 100 feet of driveway with it and if my neighbor's Kubota doesn't work, I plow the other 300 feet.... it takes a while but the machine doesn't complain. Takes about 1-2 hours for all 400 feet. The only thing wrong I've had with it thus far was the halogen bulb burnt out the first month. It was replaced by the dealer but it took almost three weeks during the snow season. The second bulb is still going strong. It has started on the first pull almost every single time...it's crazy. It's like it wants to go out there and destroy the snow. In fact it's calling my name right now to go out and snow blow the driveway again...(Nor'easter 1/4/18).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great-a beast Live on Long Island, N.Y.-had a 10 inch powdery storm in Jan, 2017, 18 inches in Feb, 2017-handled them great-throwing the snow 30-40 feet. And a 4 inch slush/ice storm in March-handled the slush easily-still threw the slush a good 10-15 feet. I use silicone spray (not WD40) constantly during usage to limit clogging. And to avoid carburetor issues, I use only premium gas (92 or 93) octane and stabilizer, and run the blower dry in spring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first snow blower, couldn't be happier We bought our 24" Compact last year, *after* a 20+ inch snow. We had only one minor snow after that last year, so we ran the gas tank dry and put it away. Last night and today we had our first snow of this year in Central Maryland. We finished with about 10" of heavy, wet snow. After filling it with gas yesterday, the Ariens started on the 2nd pull, and I staged it under the deck to be ready for today's work. I first have to drive it up a fairly steep hill in our yard, to get it out front. It pulled me up the hill with no issues (on my newly replaced knee) and cleared a pathway for our dog at the same time. No stalling or choking on the heavy, wet snow, on grass. Once out front, it took less than an hour to clear our relatively small parking pad, the sidewalks, the street in front of our driveway and mail box, and then freeing up two neighbors' cars. Most of the snow was heavy and very wet. There were some areas where I felt better about only taking on half-width swaths rather than the full width, where it was particularly deep (about 12") and wet. A couple places, I backed up and did another pass just to get it all. Our parking pad has a gradual slope, and it made no difference. The Ariens does grass-covered surfaces very well also. To do all of this by hand with a shovel would taken the two of us the better part of the day, with multiple breaks. This is our first snow blower, and we bought it from a full-price dealer because, honestly, it was all we could find locally when I started looking after last year's snows. No regrets here after today. Today was my first legitimate experience using the Ariens Compact 24, and it performed like a beast. It pulled me up our hill, and took on a lot of heavy and very wet snow. The two reverse speeds are a tremendous help in getting in and out of tighter places.
