the best i have tried in shade conditons
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a huge maple tree in the back of my house that shades more than a third of the lawn.I reseed every few years with the scotts shade mix.The seed grows far better than most in the shade.

This product is easy to use with great results
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used this product for many years. It is excellent to reseed my entire lawn so that it fills in evenly with thick green grass. I have received many compliments from neighbors who can't believe how thick and weed free it looks with very little effort.

Repairs well.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this each year to reseed where my dog runs up and down the fence and wears a path. He makes bare spots in the lawn and this seed fills in well, both in the sun and the shade.

4 Years Later
I drove by a yard that I replanted about 750 square feet of about 4 years ago and it was still a very healthy yard. Some grass seed grows up fast, but doesn't last very long. The Scott's seed grew at a healthy rate on top and at the roots and made for a durable, attractive yard.

Not sure what happened
I checked 'no' on the recommendation box because there wasn't a third option for 'not sure.'
We have a new home and I've planted numerous bags #45,000 square foot yard# of the Sun and Shade Classic and seemed to have a decent experience on other parts of my new yard. We planted the yard in thirds so that we could concentrate on doing each section well. But, the last three bags had REALLY spotty results. It's not the soil, it's not the watering schedule because i used timers and multiple heads to keep the surface damp, the weather was recently ideal - with lows in the 50s and highs upper 70s, and the sun exposure is perfect at about 50% sun, 50% shade time. Also used a starter fertilizer. It's like I just wasted money on three bags of seed that has always worked for me in the past in my other sections of the yard. Each part of the yard took about three big bags of seed because I wanted a denser new plant growth. The other two sections look great - this last third, after 40 days now, is really thin and spotty.
I've read reviews where the standard response deals with weather, soil, weed competition, etc... But that wasn't the case here, in fact, I disked the entire yard, and repeatedly raked it with a three point tractor rake attachment prior to planting. So, no chemicals to stunt the growth.
I'm at a loss to explain my dissatisfaction? But it cost me about $50+ per bag!

Works exactly as advertised.
Surprised at how fast it germinated and the soil wasn't that great. Great product and will definitely use again.

Fine, basic seed
As grass seed goes, this Scott's Classic is a fine, general purpose seed that has so far proven quite hardy. Germination takes time and a lot of watering, but that's true of all seed. One going, it stays.

Grass grew very nicley
I had a large area cleared in the back yard and put the sun and shade seed down. It came in very nicely all around. Now I just have to get the other products down to control the weeds.

If you want the most for your money use only Scotts seed.
First off I was a seed analyst for an independant laboratory for 32 years and there is no place you get what you pay for anymore than in grass seed. Cheaper products contain weed and crop seed that may be legal but can be a complete headache when you work for a beautiful lawn. Laws are more for the agricultural field and the majority of noxious weeds are problems for farmers. The ones you worry about in your lawn seed usually are not illegal. Also the inert content which is anything not considered a seed can will show up as % by weight but checking the volume it can be significant giving you many less viable seeds for your lawn. It should be buyer beware and read the label and if you do not understand it ask your lawn consultant at the store to explain it to you. Our neighborhood used to say that we have the best lawn because that is what I did for a living....but after a little seed label education they now have much inproved lawns....You don't have to be a seed analyst...just check to see what you are actually buying.

grass didnt grow
I followed directions but the grass grew in clumps around the yard. No I have hills of grass. some at heights of 4" and the lowest not growing at all. Living in Hawaii I have to follow the southern grass scheduled as laid out by your company.

Very Durable
We use the Scott's grass seed yearly to over seed at the end of summer/beginning of the fall season. With three young and active children it helps us maintain a thick and hearty lawn.

Lawn is constantly being complimented
Classic Seed fills in rapidly and has outstanding color. Seems to hold up better, compared to neigboring lawns, with heat and harsh winters.
