Works if you know what you're doing
It's a seed starting mix. You dump it into a large container, and slowly pour boiling water over and mix, until it has absorbed water. Then you fill your trays. All these negative reviews because ignorant people don't know what they are doing. Been using miracle grow seed start on and off for years, availability where at live, and making my own(10+)and yes you do have to sort through and remove large sticks etc, but that is true for all seed starting mixes. 4 stars because ingredient label is hard to find.

Don't know what is growing out of the soil.
I only put seeds in one row but a lot of things are growing that I didn't plant. Hope my super rare seeds do come up. Until then I'll see what this other stuff is

okay
I started a lot of my plants from seed this year. I started approx 80 Vincas. I had both MG and Schultz seed starting mix left from previous year. Side by side comparison between had the Schultz the clear winner for size and vigor. Conditions were exactly the same. Both had comparable germination rates.

Not for seed starting
Very disappointed to find large sticks and clumps of dirt. Vegetable seeds did not start. Unacceptable product from a name you should be able to trust

Filled with wood chips
I was really disappointed that the seed starting mix has so many big chunks of wood in it. That defeats the purpose of a seed starting soil.

Infested With Ants, Lost My Seedlings
DO NOT BUY THIS UNLESS YOU PLAN ON POURING BOILING WATER OVER IT, OR BAKING YOUR SOIL FIRST. I used this, indoors with our grow light to start all our seedlings this year. Started noticing a problem with small black ants not long after. Finally discovered the source was in one of my seedling pots. There was an ENTIRE colony of ants living in my 5” pot that I filled with this soil. We had to toss all our seedlings and we’re now 4-5 weeks behind in our growing season because this soil was full of ant larva/eggs. It all went in the compost, but I regret not saving t and sending it back as proof. I will be filing an official complaint with Miracle Gro and hope they take my complaint seriously

Too many small sticks and rocks
I've had the same experience that I see somebody else wrote on here. This contains too many pieces of sticks and small rocks for a good seed starter. I'll stick with Jiffy Mix. This issue was even worse for me with MiracleGro Humus & Manure which I'll rate on its own.

Seedlings popping up
This is my first time using seed starting mix. Usually I use regular Miracle Gro potting mix to start my Marigold and Celosia seeds which had about 90% germination. But not much success with other variety of seeds. This year I’m using Miracle Gro Seed Starting Mix and all varieties of my seeds germinated close to 90%. Here I have so far, Silver Sage, Mother of Thyme, Bachelor’s Button, and Cosmos. The bag is lightweight enough for a child to carry. This also means the mix is very dry. Before sowing, I pour the mix into a bowl, and mixed thoroughly with water until evenly moist. This guarantees there are no dry pockets which will be hard to fix once you sow your seeds. But once they’re moist, water passes through easily. I only watered once in the two weeks that have gone by. I did find a bit of white mold growing on the mix of my Bachelor’s Buttons. It was caused by the tray being covered. Once I removed the cover, the mold stopped growing. I did not have mold on my other seedlings which were not covered. The bag did have a moldy smell even when not opened. I didn’t see any gnats. Yes there were sticks I had to pick out so there is some work. I’m looking forward to sowing my zinnias and marigolds soon.
