Replaced a 35 year old attachment
My original mixer is 40 years old and still going strong. About 35 years ago, we purchased a shredder with four tapered cone style blades and eventually the housing cracked - no big deal as it lasted well. Recently, we purchased a new slicer to go with our upgraded stand mixer and questioned the quality from day one. The cylinder style blades do a poor job with cheese as you need to stop frequently and remove product. Cold or partially frozen cheese works the same way. Then last evening we left the dishwasher unsafe attachment in the sink and this morning the inlet chute separated from the white piece. I'll try some glue. Please make a metal model that lasts 30 years or so.

Used this for a year then feeder tube broke off.
It is great at shredding and slicing. However, it only lasted a year. Disappointed!

Sad to say--don't waste your money!
I purchased hoping I could shred vegetables and fruits into a large bowl rather than repeatedly emptying my food processor. Took me literally 1.5 hours to shred 1 sweet potato, 15 carrots, 10 brussel sprouts, 1 small apple. Instructions read to use speed 4. Food collects in hopper, around outside and inside of shredder. Needed a lot of pressure to get food through the shredder. Read other reviews about foods not shredding and needing freezing first, parts breaking after first or few uses. Be very careful because the mixer attachment still rotates.

Great versatility
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got this as a gift from in laws, works great - do feel like it wastes a little bit of food since it doesn't go all the way down with the piece of plastic. However, very easy to use and makes prep fly by ◡̈

Great for coarse ground cheese but not onions
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works great for coarse ground cheese just leaves one slab left at the end, but sucks for onions . There is to much room between the grater and the housing. Most of the onion layers get stuck between the housing and just keep going around and around. have to do my onion by hand.

A life saver!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this a month ago and my only regret is not buying it sooner! This makes grating cheese effortless. It does a great job and saves my wrist from pain. Beautifully grated cheese and much healthier than buying store bought processed fake grated cheese.

Fine Shredded attachment missing is disappointing
I bought the new shredder since my other shredding attachment was cracking. But it doesn't have a fine shredder like the other shredder.

Good Product, Just Not for Me
I generally love KitchenAid products - I have many - but this one I am returning. I purchased it specifically for shredding cabbage, but did not find it any quicker or less messy than doing it the job by hand with a knife. I spent a lot of time unclogging the feed tube.
Also tried slicing carrots for soup, but they were much thinner than I like or there didn’t seem to be an option for a thicker slice.
I imagine it’s great for cheeses. I will say the attachment is well-designed, well-made, and well-packaged in a box that can be used to store the pieces, but it’s a pretty big box. I do not think I will use this attachment frequently enough to justify the shelf space to keep it.
