This seed works really well on our lawn
I bought Scotts Southern Gold two years ago, and then again this year. In the Fall we usually have a thin lawn due to drought during the Summer. The water costs around here are really high in the Summer. I used Southern Gold to reseed, and to start a new patch of grass that was totally bare. Both the bare area and the reseeded areas are doing great. We are not in the deep South, but halfway down the East Coast. I really like this grass, it is standing up to the drought well, we had less thinning after the Summer. The new area is nice and green even now in the Winter. In both areas we kept the seeds wet for about 2 1/2 weeks, and then tappered off. I put the seed down late Sept or early October. I also usually add some good dirt first on any area where the soil looks red and clay like, which is the natural dirt around here. I also apply fungicide every 30 days in the Summer, and top dress with some really good dirt, at least once a year. Our lawn has built up a nice humus layer on top of the clay. It looks really great.

Fast, Thick Growth
I did a dethatching and then spread this mix over the yard. Then I spread a thin layer of topsoil over the seeds and watered daily. After a week I have growth everywhere. It looks like a fuzzy green beard!

A carpet for a lawn
When we moved in the lawn was nothing but weeds and dead grass. We air rated the area, applied black cow and raked it all in after killing all the weeds. We applied the southern gold product and have watched the lawn grow and fill in. the color in a striking green compared to the other darker green lawns. The lawn is thick. Our neighbors say it feels like a carpet. We started in April and by June the lawn was doing fine. Only one area had some issue but is filling in nicely. Would and will use this product again

Outstanding Results
After tilling my front yard, adding 14 yrds of top soil, seeding with Southern Gold, then covered in peat moss. Watered 2-3 times a day. Day 5, germination. Day 7, 1” height. Day 14, 3-4 “ height. I have a couple thin spots, I think I watered too much at one time, washing the peat moss down hill in “rows”

Brand New Lawn Southern Gold with Fertilizer
As far as I could tell, there was never a lawn on this property. I had trees removed and leveled some areas. Now one year later there is a lawn and I'm happy with the results. I'm writing this review with a lot of detail so keep reading if you're new to lawn care like myself. I did reading and research in the Scotts articles before I started, and followed all the instructions during the process. It was harder than I thought, but the Southern Gold mix and new lawn fertilizer seems to have done exactly what it should have.
I ended up having to buy new sprinklers and hoses to properly water as directed and reach all areas. I planted first in the Spring (understanding Fall is the better time) so my family could have a lawn to play on in the summer. I'd say about 90% of the seed germinated. Living in central Virginia, the August heat was hard for me to keep up with and I think about half of the lawn died by the beginning of Fall. I had already planned on re-seeding in the Fall so it was a good experience for me to see how much water was needed. I really wanted to see what the minimum amount of effort was needed to grow a new lawn. If my seedings didn't work, then I would be happy for trying and I'd just get a company to start the new lawn for me next.
But I don't need to hire a company, I was able to grow the lawn myself. The Fall seeding was great and also had about a 90% germination. I think I could've spread more considering how much had died from the Spring, but I followed the spreader settings for re-seeding in the instructions. The winter wasn't too cold in 2023, though I noticed a lot of grass had seemed to die. But now in Spring 2023 it looks like everything I planted in the Fall has grown back. I think it had just gone dormant.
I plan on re-seeding this Fall 2023 to get a thicker lawn. At the moment most of it is a little bare. It's not the prettiest, but for my minimum effort I have a proper lawn where there once was no lawn at all. Regular waterings was the key for me, stay on a schedule and pay attention to the weather forecast.

Scotts Southern Gold - Formulation Change?
I have been using Scotts Southern Gold for years with good results. I used the last of a bag from 2002 and then opened a bag I just bought in 2023. The old seed was all blue like always. The new bag seems to be a different mix. It has yellow granules and purple and gray seed. Did you change the formulation? Did I get a bag of something else in a Southern Gold bag?

Lawn repairs.
Geese destroyed my lawn after my dog passed and then the Creeping Charlie weed took over everything. Needed to do lawn repairs before it was to late. I still have other sections of lawn to finish but all in due time.

did absolutely nothing
I bought 2 40pound bags of this to reseed my entire lawn from scratch. 4 months later, I have nothing, not a single blade of grass, but tons of weeds and garbage growing all over the place.
