Works Fairly Well
Works pretty well for clearing brush and small saplings. I've cut through things up to about 1" thick but it does take a little time to get the blade through. I like being able to switch out with the string trimmer and will likely get the hedge trimmer too. I love not have to mess with gas and oil - I will likely never buy another gas product again.
I wish DeWalt offered a saw blade like cutter similar to what I've used on gas powered units. This blade is ok but it's not as aggressive. New blades are rather expensive too for no more than they are.

Only fits dcst972 -- does NOT fit dcst970 trimmers
I own a dcst970 and absolutely love it. However I am in need of a brush cutter and purchased this as it was advertised as "Universal". What is not documented anywhere publicly is that this item is only compatible with DeWalt's dcst972 model, which supports attachments. There are other reviews that state this a well. Please DeWalt, update your documentation so that other purchasers will be aware of the limitations.

Great accessory for the 60v trimmer
I'm not entirely sure what the negative reviews are expecting from this attachment. I was initially deterred from purchasing and am glad I decided to anyway. This brush cutter does a fantastic job and will cut through everything that I need it too. I had a few small sapplings that came up in a flower bed and this mowed right through them. You just need to take a little time and ease through it. Handled overgrown sections of my property with no issues ranging between 3 foot tall grasses to sticker bushes. Only advice is go slow and keep it on high speed. On low mine wrapped up and I had to spend a few minutes untangling the head.

I’m glad I made this purrchase
The bad reviews really put me off, but I didn’t want to invest in a different system, so I went ahead and purchased this attachment.
It works great - I am clearing post-wildfire regrowth, lots of brambles grown over burned branches, small woody brush and such - and this attachment did what I expected it to do.
It’s not powered by gas, so of course it’s going to be different - but based on the reviews my expectations were really low, and I was surprised it performed as well as it did given how many one stars it had.
I’ve added a photo - I want to be clear that for the thicker branches, I’m using my pole saw or chainsaw - but what you see is what I accomplished mostly with this attachment followed by the string trimmer.
I did not give it 5 stars because DeWalt’s guard makes it impossible to swap out other brush blades without removing the guard - which is a dumb move given their lack of variety in terms of other brush clearing blades.
After knocking down the majority of the brambles, so went through with the string trimmer attachment on & am really happy with the results.

I think the other reviews are inaccurate.
I just purchased the 60 volt cutter, and this attachment separately. I was skeptical due to the lack of an edge on the blade, but it cut fine even on the lower speed. Currently hacking out 1 1/2” thick vines. No real issues even with them being super green. I have a feeling people are expecting too much out of the cutter. For me it’s working perfectly.

Brushcutter NO
Bought this tool to replace a 35 year old Stihl brushcutter. The blade has NO sharp edge at all, when you rub your finger over it it actually seems rounded off. No way it come close to replacing the Stihl. Couldn't cut grass much less a small briar or tree. Very disappointed in dewalt for advertising this as a brush cutter.

terrible
Blade is made dull and even powder-coated. You have to 'hit' saplings to cut them but it rips wood and does not cut it. You cannot replace the crappy blade with a universal replacement or other brand wheel. Though not as convenient, I went back to using a chainsaw.
