Rated 4 out of 5 by from Want to Love But On the Fence Pros: plenty of smoke, appreciate the smoke taste vs gas, adequate cooking area, wide temp range (can smoke low and slow AND grill/sear), computer monitored/adjusted temps makes smoking much easier than my Smokey Mountain, nice looking grill, comes with two extra probes, I like the direct flame vs ambient heat from a plate of metal (I.e competitor’s design), arguably good value compared with its most famous competitor. Cons: vastly uneven temps even with grill preheated and lid closed, flame blows to one side (once you learn the “hot” spot and colder spots you can use the variations intentionally, but if you rely on the one built-in probe you’re shooting in the dark in terms of knowing what temperature the food is actually cooking at—frustrating when trying new recipes), lots of moving parts (not confident this will last 15 years like my Weber gas grill), takes a long time to go through the “shutdown” process and you can’t bypass, thin metal body and grates compared to my Weber Genesis which is a cast-iron tank in comparison—so not much ambient temperature to mitigate heat loss when opening lid, requires frequent cleaning compared to gas but that seems ubiquitous with pellet grills, the top rack can be useful but also makes it difficult to turn meat that is under it when the grill is loaded, the cost of pellets vs gas is not insignificant, routing of probe cables from behind the lid (per instruction manual) is awkward and creates a wider gap that releases more smoke (indicating it might affect temperature or intended convection current), pellets hopper not steep enough—requires periodic manual help to avoid a pit forming. Conclusion: Not sure yet. I’ve had this grill about 2 months and often use it multiple times a week. This is my first experience with a pellet grill. I love grilling! The SmokeFire is fun to cook with, and so far the food has turned out AMAZING most of the time. But for me this is a big investment and I want to feel more confident about build quality and parts not needing to be replaced. The uneven temperature issue seems to be very common from web comments. I’ve never had a grill that cooked perfectly evenly—so I’m not expecting perfection—but this seems a little extreme. I suspect the next generation SmokeFire will have better design to address “Cons” noted above. Just not sure if I want to wait for SmokeFire v3 or learn to live with the quirks of v2…OR go with the more expensive competitor. . .which also has its trade-offs…

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best grill ever! The grill was neatly packed, instructions were easy to follow and was up and running in less than an hour. Extremely large cooking area with plenty of room to cook multiple items. The grill quickly gets to temp and maintains the set temperature. Way to go Weber, you knocked this one out of the park. This is my new favorite grill!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from In need of replacement part. I haven’t been able to use it yet. Been waiting almost two weeks for new caster just to be shipped. I don’t want to damage it by moving it with only three casters, so in my garage it sits.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pellet grill by far I love this pellet grill. The best flavor I have ever had absolutely amazing. Does it all steaks in 10 min perfect. The only downfall is a couple glitches that weber takes care of with a phone call.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Cooker, QC needs work This grill is really great for the most part. My only gripe is that there is a lot of ash on the bottom of the cooking chamber which blocks and absorbs grease drippings. This I think can lead to grease fires in the chamber. That is the only problem I can see so far with cooking. QC out of the box wasn't so hot either. As I had the Ash Tray housing all beat up, but the box it was in was not damaged at all, a wheel that wouldn't screw in, a dent on the outside of the cooking housing, and the lid doesn't close all the way on the right side. I was sent a new wheel which screwed on perfect, a new pristine ash tray housing, and was offered a new outside cooking chamber housing, but I didn't want to take apart the grill for it. So Customer Service is awesome here. Overall, this is one of the best grills around for the price. I love being able to switch to grilling after smoking steaks for a little bit (reverse sear) so easily. I love how even it is in the chamber when smoking. I dropped off one star for the ash and the QC. Otherwise this would be a fiver.
