Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice Storage Box, Nice Look, Poor Lid Design I bought the box to hold pool equipment (nets, hoses, brushes, toys etc.) The bonus is people can sit on it yet, nobody has. Looks nice and blends in. When my kids opened the lid, the straps that stop it from opening too far came apart where the small screw attaches the strap to the lid and the frame. As soon as the straps broke, one of the plastic hinges broke. Well, I can fix the straps and if I could buy hinges, I could fix the box. Without new hinges, (molded to fit) my nice looking almost new box is useless. Should have made better quality hinges with heavier hinges and hinge bodies.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor hinge design and too many gaps The biggest problem for me is trying to get the posts (for the hinges) on the bottom side through small holes for the hinges on the cover. I cannot hammer hard enough. Also, I am worried that bugs and mice may squeeze through the gaps between the sides. No problems putting the sides up. Put the side of the bottom that has the writing on it facing the ground. It feels weird because the cover and the sides all have the writing facing inside.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Falls apart When trying to assemble this box it was obvious the base was damaged from the mold with a ripple on one end, also the pins on the side walls do not line up properly. The walls have gaps and won't stay together, Nothing lines up correctly not even the holes for the lock. I am very disappointed...You pay more for Rubbermaid products expecting higher quality, I will definitely think twice before buying your product again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Brand new, seems defective I have the same issue as other users, the display model at the store shows perfectly closed, 'water resistant' in a way. The one I bought, sealed in box, is clearly not. I bought this for my BBQ equipment, it seems like tons of critters will be getting in through the large gaps.....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Parts do not fit I bought this a few days ago and the pieces do not fit together properly you can see daylight where the parts should fit together. there was a puncture hole in one side and the top doesn't close its off by inch or more. The whole thing is warped, junk.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Time consuming to assemble. This is a nice storage box. Far from water proof. It is a nice size and will hold numerous patio accessories. Not close to the same quality of the old Rubbermaid products. It appears they have have adopted the philosophy price is more important than quality. Rubbermaid use to be a world class company with best in market products. I can't get over the assembly process for this chest. It is necessary to take a hammer and screw driver, per instructions, and beat our eight plugs in the base of the chest. This takes at least 20 minutes and should have been performed during the manufacturing process. Additionally, there is no pre-drilling where the holes to attach the straps (cheap) which are needed to be mounted to prevent the top from falling backwards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Sturdy and not THAT hard to assemble! Sheesh I'm incredibly pleased with this deck box! Yeah, I know, no instruction sheet but the assembly diagram is on the box if you just look at it carefully! I did put the bottom upside down at first, but when stuff didn't line up it was a no-brainer to flip the bottom over. It is SO sturdy and holds a ton of yard stuff. Makes the whole yard look better and can double as a serving area as it's right next to the grill. It also supports two adults as a bench with no bowing or bending whatsoever. Also very easy to clean after someone cleaned the eaves right over the top of it. Very satisfied with this box. I've owned it for over 3 years.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from How does the lid go on? The instructions for this are atrocious. I was able to put the structure floor and walls together fairly easily, but the instructions for putting the lid on are baffling. I don't want to start hammering anything, but from what I can tell from the instructions you're supposed to hammer a thick plastic pin through a smaller hole, but with no leverage? I looked on YouTube but all the "instructional" videos are just pictures of the piece Since it's just a simple piece of paper, you'd think they'd spend a little more time making the instructions understandable

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice- great ize Bought this for my boyfriend for his recyclables. Previously, he had multiple containers on his deck which looked sloppy and raccoons kept getting into. This is a much neater solution.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice product Nice product and is well built and easy to assemble. The straps that are used to keep the lid from going to far back need to be re-designed. Just connecting with a small screw will not let straps last very long. Very poor design for such a large company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy asssembly It was very easy to put together. A very sturdy product. I bought it with the intention of storing tires as I have no garage and only a small shed. If the box is just a little bigger (27 inches tall and deep), I will be able to store 2 sets of tires. Alas, I can only store one set of 15" tires.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product exactly as pictured Excellent product! Arrived in a very timely manner, and had it assembled in under 30 minutes. Easily held 7 patio cushions with ample room for other items or additional cushions. Highly recommend. Worth every penny!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Should have come here first Bought this at a Home Depot in Hawaii after doing lots of comparison at Sears and local garden stores. First problem was there was no instructions in the box (new box with shrink wrap, sealed). I, too, as one reviewer above figured "how can I go wrong - don't need instructions for a box". Assembled it based on intuition but found hinge pins don't fit without forcing and sides/back/front won't interlock. Open the lid and the sides pull out. Then looked on line for instructions. And, same as another reviewer above, found the instructions on line but the print was blurry (believe it was for a discontinued model). Then found the "revised" instructions based on a Rubbermaid response to the complaint. Turned out I went wrong by having the floor upside down; none of the pieces locked in and there were gaps in the sides. Plus, no straps for the lid included in the box. I am about to return it, (I always keep boxes til I'm satisfied with a product!) but glad I at least looked for the mfr's web page. So, I'll get it back out and try again...but it sure would have been easier if Rubbermaid quality control had been on the ball before it was shipped.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality and easy to assemble This was very easy to assemble. I've sat on it and opened and closed the lid many times and it holds together quite well. I did read some bad reviews before I bought this, but based on good experiences with Rubbermaid in the past I bought it anyway and am very glad I did. Anyone having problems assembling this or having it fall apart clearly did not read the very easy directions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than Pleased! We had just purchased cushions for four chairs and a very long bench and we could not find anything large enough in which to store them. I found the XL Deck Box with Seat online and ordered it. Easy to put together and everything fit! We love it! Our grandchildren love to sit on it and I know that our cushions will stay dry!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great outside storage solution! Bought this box over 5 years ago to store all of my grilling supplies and equipment. Has survived 4 Virginia and 1 south Florida summers in direct sunlight, freezing Virginia winters, and 3 hurricanes...only issue with it is that one of the plastic lid restraining straps tore during a strong wind storm when the lid was violently lifted up because I didn't have it pushed all the way down...not a default of the product as I don't expect plastic straps to hold up to that kind of force. We absolutely love this crate as a deck storage container and seat and would definitely recommend it to others. Am writing this review today because I'm on the website looking for dividers and shelf accessories for the crate...the interior of the crate has a lip half way up (for a shelf?) and grooves that look like they support dividers...hoping to eliminate my only issue with the product, and that is inability to partition off and organize the interior....only reason I'm giving Ease of Use 4 instead of 5 stars.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wish it was better This is my second box and I really wish they would improve the quality if the hinges when assembling this box. This is the second time that it is nearly impossible to connect the pins to the hinges. As well, the hinges stretched so much so that white plastic is exposed and the cover is loose. Not too happy about that. Otherwise the box is great for being weather resistant and sturdy (minus the cover and hinges).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broken hinges I have owned this for one year, the hinges are both broken on the box from usage. The color and overall style is nice but that does not do much for functionality. The box is spacious but again without good working hinges it is not worth much. If the material it is made out of will never rot or become weathered what is the point if the hinges break after a year of usage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love It! I have bought three of these now for storage at a school. So easy to assemble (I question those unable to follow the simple photo instructions, one panel fits the front and one the back with different tabs!). So durable, that is with preschoolers opening/closing them and loading them with toys, balls and big play trucks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't Be Happier We have own the XL version deck box for 7 years. We were so pleased with the rubbermaid deck box product when we needed another this spring we bought the large size one shown here. Takes a bit of force to pop all the sides into the grooves. Never had it fall apart. The older box did have the lid straps break over last summer and this spring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Generator Box I will use this container for my generator. I plan to cut holes in the left side to bring in air with the help of a small fan. On the left side a single hole to attach an exhaust from the generator . The generator is only 3500 watts and is 18x18x24 should this not work as I hope I will let you know! The Rubbermaid container is approximately 20x20x39 ID. The medium deck Box W/seat.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY!!! I bought this from home depot (item 1828822 - rubbermaid deck box mocha). It contains NO assembly instructions. You can find scanned .pdf instructions on the rubbermaid web site but they are nearly illegible as they appear to have degraded in the scanning process. One might think that a snap-together plastic box would be intuitive to assemble, however, you must punch out holes in the bottom. This is not mentioned in the scanned instructions on Rubbermaid's site. The pins are not sized properly to push through the hinges. In attempting to force the pins through the hinges, the plastic bends to the point of breaking. The resulting product will be unstable and dangerous. I am very disappointed in the brand, and the experienced has tarnished the image of Rubbermaid as a reliable, well made product. Other reviewers mentioned that the hinges stretch-out with repeated opening and closing of the lid. This is not a product I would recommend and chances are very good that yours will not assemble properly.
