Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this to finish shelves and keep them protected from the elements. Was extremely easy to apply and only needed a single coat. So far has worked beautifully and lives up to its protective name. Would definitely recommend this brand for all their top quality products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WORST PRODUCT EVER I used this product to finish a very important job which they wanted to see a super flat finish, that's why I used ultra flat polycrylic. Today after 8 months of having delivered the job, I am returning with all the doors and drawers to be repair and refinished and still I have to repair and refinish everything that is in the house because it could not be brought to the shop. The finish disappears as if it had never been done, the surfaces are stained with any product including water. WORST PRODUCT EVER. I'm doing this for 20 years and I never see something like this in such a short period of time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from What's Next to Protect My Table? I had very good results using Minwax Polycrylic after finishing 3 semi-gloss coats over a properly stripped, sanded, sealed and painted pine table top. Looked great and got lots of compliments as I let it dry for 5 days before using. My problem came when we started using the table and had a spill of oily red oriental sauce one day which appeared to be staining. I scrubbed the spot and eventually it came out. Not pleased about this and figured the top was not yet cured. If that's the problem I just wonder when it might be. Then last night I put a fairly hot cup of tea down on the table and left it for 5 minutes. When I went to pick it up it appear lightly stuck. As I lifted the cup there was a noticeable ring left as if melted somewhat into the surface. I tried cleaning products to remove the ring but looks like its a lightly noticeable permanent spot, unless I sand it again and reapply. I'm reluctant to do that because maybe this is not the proper product and creates just a softer surface that is not as durable as I was led to believe. If that's the case, can you recommend what I can do to create a more durable surface? I'm just looking for something that can take the day-in and day-out durability that an everyday table needs. I am willing to avoid some things on it but what? Did I leave enough time to cure the surface? Will it ever get better over time? Can I solve this by using a oil-based or marine product for a better harder surface?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Frustrated I have refinished a piece of furniture with paint except stained the top. I am having severe issues with this finish having small bubbles or something. Leaves behind several small dots. Have sanded & reapplied several times and am now going to strip and start over. Very frustrated with this finish. My husband had used this product before & said it was great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I’ve done over 700 different pieces and the Clear Satin is a difference maker. It’s easy to work with, I brush it on and have zero issues. If you’ve got a problem with this stuff, it’s on you, lol. Love it! Makes my pieces pop! I wouldn’t use anything else!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Really difficult to work with I used this product to stain a 6ft x 15in board that is part of a piece of furniture I built. The color was simply white, semi-transparent. I followed the directions to apply the stain with a high quality synthetic brush. When I went to wipe off the excess with a clean rag as instructed (immediately, within 2 min), I found that the rag stuck to the product as I tried to wipe. This made the result extremely splotchy. I stripped the splotchy stain off to start over, but before doing so I called Minwax to get some advice. After explaining what I was experiencing, the individual ended up suggesting that I use a damp rag to wipe off the excess instead of a dry one. This did work a little better, but also removed most of the product. I decided to try something radical. I bought some plain Brillo sponges. I stirred the stain and then wiped some stain onto the sponge with the stirring stick to prime it. Then, I poured a stream of stain along the entire length of the board. I used the sponge to quickly spread the stain, and then made light passes across the board from end-to-end, with the grain, to gently smooth out the stain. I held the sponge with both hands while doing this, being careful to minimize the amount of pressure applied. This technique gave me a pretty reasonable result. Minwax, please update the directions and provide a corresponding video to help people apply this product in a way that will work with this extremely thick, fast-drying stain. Many people are wasting money, and worse a ton of time and effort trying to make this product work. Have some compassion for all these poor folks. Thx!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Smooth clear finish and easy to use Painted countertop with Rust-oleum stone textured paint and let dry for 48 hours. Then applied 6 coats polycrylic over this. It has been over a month and when water is left on countertop very long it softens the polycrylic and can be scrapped off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Is polycrylic food safe once cured? I have used it successfully for other indoor projects, but is it food safe once cured?. Specifically for cutting boards, charcuterie boards and noodle boards.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from epic fail I veneered a hope chest lid with a walnut veneer , stained with minwax walnut stain then applied a coat of satin polycrylic finish. The veneer blistered and lifted from substrate material. What went wrong?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cloudy residue We are renovating an antique barn and I applied the Polycrylic ultra flat to several of the old beams. After lightly sanding the surface of the old pine wood, I wiped them down with water to remove the dust in preparation. The beams then dried for 24 hrs. Making certain to mix the product really well we applied it thinly with a brush and allowed it to dry thoroughly. The next day, much to my disappointment, a white film remained on the antique wood and I have to find a way to rectify this. 5 days later and I am understandably upset.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the satin finish I just did a mahogany coffee table. Dries super fast. I did have a tiny bit of issues with drying too fast but I think the weather is too warm right now. I have minor shiner streaks. Wondering can put a coffee cup on it without coaster or will that cause rings? I have 2 end tables to do and would like it to go smoother. I did 4 coats trying to get it right. Don’t think the issue is the product but my application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this stuff Uh-oh, I used this on my half bath floor after I painted and stenciled, but I see it's not recommended for floors. (Despite what Bob Vila says.) I've been washing with mild, soapy water. Thoughts? I also used it to seal a wax bowl that left residue on your hands and surfaces. Not to be used to food. It seemed to work well for both.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The spray is horrible to use I bought the product to use as a protective coat on my paintings and it was ok when there wasn't bubbles and I'll give it 4 stars but the spray is terrible. It spits and splatters and for some reason you have to stop after a couple passes and wipe it off or it will drop on the surface you're trying to cover. I thought with it being the more expensive one and with Minwax's reputation it would be the best buy. I was mistaken. So now i have to sand down my project again and I will be using a different company's products. The experience with the spray has been a waste of money and time and hours more work for me. Very disatisfied!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect finish I was hoping for! I bought the Minxwax Polycrylic Clear Matte. It went on super easy with my paint brush and dried much fast than expected. I know it’s recommended to sand in between coats but I did not have to. Everything was easy and the finish came out perfect! I was scared I would lose the color tone to my table by putting a poly on it but this was perfect. It added just a touch of warmth but for the most part my table looks the same as before which is a relief because it took me hours upon hours to sand it and get the look and colors I wanted. Highly recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Bubbles It's very difficult to apply the finish as it constantly bubbles. There was nothing on the can that warned of this problem or what to do about it. I searched online, found some solutions, but none really work. Now I have to spend another five hours sanding the desk down and try something else. I would never recommend this product to anybody.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The spray nozzle makes this product unusable I've have exclusively used Minwax products for all my wood finishing needs for many years. Love the Fast Drying Polyurethane (oil base). Today I purchased the Minwax Water Based Polycrylic Clear Gloss in the spray can, expecting the same level of performance. What I experienced was spitting and bubbling all over my project, requiring me to wipe it off, let it dry and sand it again. In the past, I have sprayed the water base through a spray gun with great results, but the performance of this spray can was abysmal and very disappointing. Because it was a small project, I chose the spray can to avoid the hassles of setting up and cleaning the spray gun, but at this point, that is my only viable solution. I am returning the Minwax Polycrylic spray and will be searching for alternative water based poly in a spray can that will perform as expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sleek finish I recently painted our kitchen cabinets and applied rustoleum top coat to finish. I was so disappointed at how tacky it was, with high gloss and brush strokes highly visible. I decided to wet sand it and this time applied Minwax polycrylic matte and I am amazed at how clean the finish is. Also I love how easy it is to apply and that it's fast drying. Would highly recommend this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love! Love! Love! I bought Minwax Ultra Flat Polycrylic to cover kitchen cabinets I painted in dark gray chalk paint that I tinted and mixed myself. I had a major failure with General Finishes flat poly, it dried white in the corners! Certainly not the look I was going for, very disappointed in General Finishes, over expensive subpar product. I decided to experiment with the Minwax Ultra Flat Poly...I whipped up a mixture of 50/50 Minwax Ultra Flat Poly with my base paint (without the Plaster of Paris) and then a 60/40 mixture of Minwax with my base paint (again no Plaster of Paris)...I covered the cabinets with 2 coats, a light sand with 320 grit, then a 3rd & final coat, I found the 60/40 Minwax & paint (not chalk) mixture gave me the best overall coverage, protection and look I was going for...the cabinets which are in our 1774 historic New England farmhouse came out gorgeous! The cabinets are flat with very minimal sheen, the same you’d get with wax over chalk paint, but are very durable and washable...and they’re holding up to our 4 yr old and his tractors so I consider that a big win! I then sealed the wood shelves we cut from 1” planks of 100+ yr old wood from the attic floors we replaced, the wood is protected but the finish is ultra flat, no sheen, absolutely perfect rustic look! I highly recommend this product if you’re looking for a flat but durable finish.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Get a higher quality polycrylic I have a 100 year old table and chair set that I spent a solid month refurbishing. I sanded it down very well, but with it being 100 years old, it still had plenty of little knicks and dents in the wood. So I chose chalk paint to paint the table legs and chairs as it is so dense and also very flat that it conceals imperfections very well. The paint job was perfection, and I was so pleased with it. Then I made the mistake of putting Miniwax Matte finish Polycrylic on top. First of all, it’s not matte at all. The sheen is much closer to semi-gloss. I stirred the can literally 100 times in both ways (I counted it out in my head) so I know that no components were separated in the can— in other words, this was not a user-error. I also applied a very light coating. I thought after my first coat that it just needed to dry in order for the sheen to diminish. Nope. Still very high shine. It ruined the texture of my chalk paint completely, and revealed every single blemish on all of my chairs. I was distraught. Also, it yellowed in some spots, and I know for a fact that it was not caused by tannins because I coated the chairs with shellac everywhere prior to applying the white chalk paint to seal the tannins from seeping through. Thinking I had maybe a bad batch of paint, I borrowed some of the same matte polycrylic from my mother to hopefully conceal the sheen (after sanding off the yellow streaks) and it did the SAME THINGG!! I’m mad, and disappointed to say in the least. Don’t buy the matte polycrylic, it’s just so disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good protection [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After continuous use for the past 3 weeks, this Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish has held up remarkably! I used two coats of this on top of hand painted coasters to protect the paintings. I'm impressed so far. I would recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for small projects [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like using this for small projects to help seal my vinyl. Perfect for making glitter ornaments and wooden signs. It is important to use in a well ventilated area and use gloves and a face mask so you don’t breath in the fumes. Great finish .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Drys so clear!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I cannot BELIEVE how super easy this stuff was to use!!I used it to on top of a deal that I had just painted a bright teal. I chose a BRIGHT color because I figured that the clear coat would probably dull it a little. NOPE! It didn’t dull it AT ALL in fact it gave it a nice crystal clear finish and it was completely dry in about 2.5 hours

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We were looking for a new stain for some furniture and picked this up. Loved the ease of the product as well as the color. Low odor. Very pleased and will definitely purchase again. Still have plenty left over for the next project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great finish [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was a very nice finish coating on a coffee table I vamped up. I took it from solid wood to painting it black and painting a chess board on it. I even used a glitter tape as a boarder and this sealed everything in. It didn't even make the tape bubble up or anything. It was easy to use and didn't leave any brush strokes. I like the amount of shine it gave off and that it really was clear and now yellowed discoloration. It also cleans up really easy since it is water based. It didnt have any tacky feel after it was dry like some others I have used. It made the table easy to wipe down and the chess pieces don't leave marks or scratches. It protects very well. I can't wait to up-cycle more furniture

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stuff [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I do a lot of wood refinishing, from small wood pieces to large furniture, and this is the perfect finish for most items. It gives a nice soft lustrous non-glossy shine. It's very easy to apply and dries quickly. I can add a new coat after a couple of hours. I generally use three coats to get the perfect long-lasting coverage and finish. I use very thin coats, so a quart goes a long way. I put 3 coats on a large (6 ft) 3-part entertainment center and had plenty left for another project. I don't bother to sand between coats; I get good adhesion by just using thin coats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got to try Minwax Polycrylic protective finish and love it! Very easy to use. Dries fast and clean up is easy. It has little odor and is great for indoor projects. I used it to make glitter Christmas ornaments, covered wood signs and great for any other indoor projects. Can be used over oil water based stains. First you clean the item, sand if using wood, apply any stain and wait until dry, once dry can ally polycrylic, let dry and can then apply a second coat if desired or needed. Loved working with this and look forward to more projects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My Wife is a huge crafter and always is asking me to do something. She made some really cool wood signs and instead of her asking me I told her I could seal them for her. It goes on super easy and a little bit goes a long way. The wood signs came out perfect and smooth. Great product!!
