Good Timmer - Needs Overheat Protection
Great Power, but in actual heavy duty conditions where weeks wind around the head there is excessive head gap that allows weeds to wrap and bind the spinning head. When this happens the unit should stop or have some type of temperature overheat protection. Unfortunately it does not and it causes the motors to burn out. Has happened to me once and after reading up on it is more common. Not recommended for actual heavy duty applications.

60 v string trimmer
Have used for one season and now the trimmer head is not functional. After reloading with new line, the head keep unspooling all of the line until it binds around the drive spindle. This head has been a little problematic since new, but not working at all now.

Way better than gas!
I’m flabbergasted by the number of negative reviews. I have had mine for 3 full summers and I use it for about 45 minutes per week (I have a big yard). I’ve not had a single issue with this trimmer, aside from an occasional tie up in the string that keeps it from releasing, but way less often than all my other trimmers. The 60v battery fully charged does my whole yard. Unlike a gas trimmer you can hold this thing at any angle you want to get perfect edges. Can’t say enough about this… when it breaks I will buy it again without a second thought!

Shaft bent due to hitting the head on the ground
I have owned this less than a year and the main shaft is bent like a U due to hitting the head on the ground to release more string. The power of this thing is amazing, but the durability of the shaft is crap and the stringer head sucks as well. Just a poor design. I just sent in a support request (#5598066) to see if they will fix it under warranty. I guess we will see if they stand behind their product and if it has improved in the past year or not.

Parts Wear out Fast
Great overall....thanks to the good batteries Dewalt is known for. The string housing wore it in just under 24 months. We've barely used it this year, so we're very unimpressed with how quickly the wear occurred. This is NOT my normal experience with this brand. Hopefully they address and fix the issue. I haven't searched for the replacement parts yet.

Would not buy again
Motor works fine, string releases fine (but haven't had to reload string yet...instructions are a bit weak on that), but the safety shield is way too narrow. It throws crap (sand, bits of gravel, pieces of weed stems, etc.) all over the place including all over you. I had to buy a face shield to keep it out of my face.

Biggest disappointment
Biggest piece of junk I’ve ever bought from Dewalt . They need to go back to the drawing board on this . I’m ready to throw it in the trash and it’s practically brand new . I do more maintenance on it than what I’ve even used it .

Motor and pinion failure twice
My first Dewalt trimmer stopped working into the second season. The brushless motor simply stopped working. I called Dewalt. They sent me a replacement. Now the same thing hapened again, after just about the same use. However, this time, Dewalt will not replace or repair my trimmer. I beleive their is a design issue with the motor and pinion. The brushless motor tends to overheat, and expand, and dust or debris is allowed into the motor causing friction and eventually destabilizing the motor and catastrophic failure. It's simply poorly designed. Too bad, because the power and autonomy was decent. about 20 minutes per 60V 8ah battery. I trim about 1 acre residence, every 2 weeks in the summer. I will not purchase another Dewalt Trimmer. All their other tools have worked very well and are quite durable, just not the trimmer.
