Google Smart Lock That's NOT Compatible with... Google?!
I was very excited to purchase the Nest x Yale Lock thinking it was going to be an upgrade over my existing Schlage Z-wave smart locks. I happily installed the lock imagining how awesome it was going to be to have my house a fully functioning Google smart home. After an hour, my lock lost connection and I was not able to re-establish the connection with my network. I called Nest support who informed me that these locks are actually NOT compatible with the Google mesh network. WHAT?! So apparently, because Google wifi will constantly switch from 2.4 to 5 GHz to establish the best connection, the Nest x Yale smart lock cannot reciprocate. It will need to latch on to a single frequency. As such, whenever the frequency changes, the lock will drop it's connection and cannot automatically re-establish the connection. I would have to setup as new... Every. Single. Time. The other alternative was to create a guest network just for the lock as a work-around. That's just unacceptable.

Nest Yale lock
Great lock. I have nest cameras and thermostats. I love the products. Also great having everything in one app. This lock is a great addition to the line up at my house. Kids were constantly losing keys constantly leaving the door unlocked. I can check the status of the door lock from anywhere, I can even set it to automatically lock after a certain amount of time after it is unlocked. I can give the kids the code to open it or set them up in the nest app so they can push a button in the app to unlock the door. Love this product… now they need a garage door product!!!! Easy install if your door is set up correctly. My door was not cut clean for original locks so It took me a few minutes more to complete installation, otherwise it would have been done in 20 minutes.

Works as expected
Everything seems to be working fine. I had a problem with my previous lock from another brand where the setting sun would heat up the touchpad and cause malfunctions. So far the Nest Yale seems to be doing well. I guess I wont really be able to compare apples to apples until this unit makes it through a summer. The Nest app is also great. I needed the ability to manage pass codes remotely and the Nest app does this very well.
