Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad wheel assembly design and quality I have had trouble after about the 5th use with this spreader. The main problem is that the wheels only sometimes stay locked into place and fall off. A whole load of fertilizer has often fallen out of the hopper when the wheels come off without warning—just a bad, bad design on the wheel assembly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Design nightmare. Do not waste your money! I bought this with the intention of being able to load the entire bag into the hopper. Was I wrong! I used Scotts Winterizer and as I moved across the yard, the bouncing compacted the product so much that the spinner could not go around. I ended up on setting #9 before I could get enough out. I ended up going around my 12,000 ft space 5 times in order to get it all spread.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent spreader I have two of these and they work fine. Sit outside in the weather upside down and have never failed

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk, cheap, plastic parts. Cheap. Plastic parts and gears. I used mine for grass seed and pellitized lime and the agitator is completely destroyed. So now I have to shake or jerk the spreader to get it to go down in into the drop spreader. I ha e had two spreaders from Scott's do the same thing. Complete junk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Plastic junk. Sheared pin, makes keeping the hopper opening impossible, waste of money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Current turf builder mini, didn’t last two years Scott’s had a great spreader in the Speedy Green series. The current lineup of spreaders are of poor quality. Bring back the quality products that I had trust in your products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible spreader Terrible spreader. Wheels hold fertilizer then dump it out where ever it wants. Handle is way to narrow too. Stops spreading fertilizer at will. I have used Scotts products for years and have never been so disappointed as I am with this product. I can't believe Scott's puts its name on this piece of junk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage Garbage. The thing is broken after 5 uses. Edgeguard doesn’t move anymore and the wheels lock up. This spreader is terrible. This will be the LAST consumer grade product I’ll ever buy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I purchased this unit earlier this spring, the discharge is erratic, Now nothing comes out of it. How do I get a replacement?
Date published: 2023-10-07
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Spreader no good at all! I bought this spreader and it is useless. Spreads uneven and buns or stripes the grass. The hollow insides on the wheels are the problem they load up with product.
Date published: 2023-09-29
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Drive wheel dragging I bought this two years ago. I put about 200 pounds of product through it annually. The last time my daughter used it, she reported it was difficult to push because the drive side wheel is contacting the frame, especially problematic when the hopper is full. What can I do to fix this?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Killed my lawn due to faulty spinner on spindle! I wish I could give a ZERO STAR! 1-star is pushing the limits! My lawn is now mostly burnt and huge areas are dead because of the inside spinner coming off the spindle and dropping large amounts of fertilizer on grass. This happened without me knowing, as I was fertilizing my lawn. The other issue is the wheels hold fertilizer and cause stripes because the fertilizer collects there and then dumps off the wheels. After fertilizing my lawn, I started noticing brown, then it RAPIDLY worsened. Watering has not helped, I’m guessing because of the amount of fertilizer that the spreader was dropping was so great. I have went from a lush beautiful lawn to horrible brown and dead. Sad, because I have spent so much time taking care of my new home and lawn, now it’s so bad it’s quite embarrassing. My lawn was the best in the neighborhood, now people walk by puzzled looks probably wondering what has happened. I want to put a sign out saying faulty Scott’s spreader caused this! Needless to say, the lawn will have to be seeded and started over in huge areas! The rest that has some life will need overseeding. I’m so disappointed in this product right now that I can say I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER SCOTT’S! I’ll definitely never recommend this item. So this is goodbye, Scott’s. Site won’t let my upload pics.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can't trust Well hate to kick a product when it's down but the spinning part inside broadcaster pops off shaft but real problem is you don't realize it and by the time you do you don't know how much came out, too much, to little, too unreliable!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not buy again or recommend this product I bought this new two or three years ago. Have used it five or six times and the plastic drive shaft broke. It’s nearly new and ready for the dumpster. I cleaned it after every use and stored it inside.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor plastic parts. Plastic parts are inferior quality, rotating white poly drive shaft snapped and teeth on knurled shaft wore down after only one season of use. I don’t want my money back, just send me a new set of moving parts so I can repair it myself.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The product is flawed I have used the Scotts broadcast spreader for 20 years or more. Periodically, some part breaks and I have to buy a new one (this is expected with all equipment). However, the current version does not work like the previous ones. I now have brown stripes on my lawn. I can't tell what the difference is, but I will be calling Scott. (I tried to add a photo of my lawn, but the optional add photo did not work.)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sheared plastic= worthless Busted after 2 uses. Plastic sheared off rotating spreader- now it’s absolutely useless. Waste of $$

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This spreader sucks Piece of crap. Second one in three years. This time it blew apart top and bottom and can’t find parts anywhere. No competition so Scott’s sells us crap. Very disappointed. Won’t let me add the pictures on this site either. Low class operation ruining a great name.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Turf builder edge guard broadcast spreader suck This spreader has damaged multiple lawns that do the only reason that it damaged multiple lawns is do to the fact I didn't notice what it was doing until it was too late . The plastic wheels are completely stupid. The wheels have areas that collect and build up fertilizer until it spills out causing you the over fertilize some trails and turns. I've been doing lawn maintenance for nearly 32 years and I've used lame things before but with the name Scotts on it I expected better. I have a 5 star rating and if I fall from my 5 star rating I am going to be extremely mad. Not that I'm not extremely mad now

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this I bought mine years ago, I can't remember when. It has only had issues after using it for salting in the winter. I quick cleanup in the spring and it was like new.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wheels seem to be an issue for the DLX product. purchased the DLX spreader last fall to overseed, worked well at that time. This spring went to spread some granular product and the wheel sheared off - I am seeing other reviews of the same thing. I have reached out to Scotts - asking where to purchase replacement parts - Thus far my searches on the web only produce Scotts parts for let's say bigger products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible product - very disappointed I bought the edgeguard broadcast spreader this spring to leverage the large hopper for our very big lawn and to replace a smaller scotts spreader that was on it's last leg and one that the settings weren't listed on fertilzer bags so it was hard to adjust the applications . I just tried it today to lay down some summer fertilizer and had the same results as this past spring. A very inconsistent coverage, sometimes it broadcasts the material and other times it does not. The control gate opens up the correct amount - the problem may be with the agitator it doesn't appear to break up the clumps and ensures the proper amount is landing on the spreader plate. I've tried using a piece of wood to help break the clumps but this has no effect. My older spreader never had a problem using the same material every year. This is a big disappointment and waste of time and money. I expected more from Scotts

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible!! DO NOT BUY! Axel/Wheels came off after 2 uses, door to release fertilizer gets stuck in the open position often, and fertilizer gets stuck in wheel area causing lines in grass. Its a huge pile of junk and VERY expensive for what you get. I cant name a single thing I liked about this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pinstripes are cool … on baseball uniforms This spreader is great for creating that dark green pinstripe effect in your grass that’ll get the whole neighborhoods attention. The hollowed out wheels catch your fertilizer, pesticide or herbicide as it comes out of the spreader and delivers it disproportionately along the wheel lines to your yard. If you’re looking for yard care equipment that’ll make you think your 15 year old son screwed up … this is it. If you want to create ‘safe zones’ for weeds and bugs in your lawn after thoroughly and properly spreading herbicide and pesticide … look no further. You found it. This spreader appeals to the altruistic side of me. Somewhere in the Scott’s company is a design team that needs you to buy this thing and save their jobs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This spreader is a mistake to everyone who buys it Design causes streaks from fertilizer being flung into wheels.
Date published: 2023-07-30
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor performance Had to buy this more expensive model because my local hardware store ran out of the basic model. Been back to the store three times because I’m using Scotts fertilizer and this spreader at the recommended setting and it’s not putting down anywhere near as much product is it supposed to.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SORRY JUNK My old Scott’s broadcast spreader lasted about 12 yrs. I thought this new one would work as well, NOPE!! It acts like a drop spreader later leaving dark green streaks on your path. SORRY DESIGN!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Another unwary buyer Like so many others I really wish I had read these reviews prior to purchasing. I have seen the striping problem as well a difficulty in getting it properly calibrated. Given all of the poor reviews I would love to see a response from Scott that says were hear you our engineers are working on it or tell us what we are doing wrong so we can correct the problem. Seriously I can't recall seeing a product with as many bad reviews that is still on the shelf waiting for more unwary buyers.
