Poor Design
Bought this spreader last summer. Hard to use. Rear stand is too long. Feel like going to tip ove when pushing it. My yard is tall fescue. Used it last summer because I needed too put down fertilizer and weed stop. Just used it for the first time this spring, wish I had returned it last year. Can hardly push through grass and the grass has just been mowed. Might be good for bermuda grass.

Poor design
Rear stand is way to long to push through grass. Poor design makes it almost impossible to use smoothly. I am returning to store.

Very good spreader
I purchased this spreader to replace an old cheap model. I like the quality and the ease of use. The only downfall is the rear stand. It is too long. Sitting on concrete the spreader is about level , it needs to be shorter. When you push it through the grass it gets very hard to control. If you hold the rear leg up and out of the grass all you fertilizer goes straight down and doesn’t broadcast. I would recommend a new design for that.

grinding gears
I purchased this product spring of 2020 and the 2nd time in use I could hear the grinding begin and by the 4th use I was hoping to get done before it stopped working all together "horrible grinding noise" very unimpressed with the quality of this product

Nice Spreader BUT.....
I purchased this spreader because of the Chapin name but also keeping the past reviews in mind. The spreader is built well and looks like it would last much longer than my last spreader. The only issue I have are the lack of assembly instructions. Now, I can put most things together without instructions and this spreader was no different. The only issue I had was the extra parts and where to use them. Should I use the agitator or the auger or should the agitator be used elsewhere. No one knows because the lack of instructions, so I removed 1 star because of this issue. Other than the lack of instructions, the spreader works MUCH better than my old spreader.

just put this 8200a spreader together, i am very mechanical but poor instructions, bolts and nuts on the bottom of box. handle laying in the bottom of box. there is a small plastic impeller looking piece but no idea where it goes. rubber protective boot for axle fell off in box. quality control terrible. i hope this thing works better that it was shipped?? for $143 i expected a bit more from a US made product. not sure about recommending this item yet.

Works well
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this once so far. It worked pretty well. I used it to spread home defense in my yard. I had to adjust it a couple times to make sure that too much wasn't coming out at once but once I got it adjusted it worked pretty well. I ended up having a couple of pieces left over when putting or together that I don't know what to do with. The directions for assembling were lacking and hard to figure out. Hopefully this pieces aren't important. Looking forward to try this with rock salt in a couple months... not that I'm looking forward to the snow.

Great!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this as a sample in exchange for my honest review. I haven't actually gotten a chance to use this on my lawn yet, and I already spread my product, but I still really love this spreader. It is big, and will hold a lot so I'm not constant refilling. It is also very sturdy, so I have no doubt that it will last for years!!
